New DuckTales series from Disney

I'm a huge fan of the Uncle Scrooge comics, so naturally my inclination is to bring the show more in-line with the Carl Barks/Don Rosa stories, but I also realize I just have to relax: Uncle Scrooge and DuckTales are related but different, and the cartoon brought in a whole lot of fans for the comic, so I can't complain.

... but I would love it if Huey, Dewey, and Louie lived with Donald instead of with Scrooge in his mansion (comics Scrooge is so cheap he doesn't even live in a mansion: he sleeps in a spare room at his office).

... also get Magica's (Italian) and Flintheart's (South African) accents right.

... and make the Beagle Boys more competent and threatening and less comical.

Okay, okay, I'll stop.

Really excited for this, hopefully they keep the old theme and don't do anything too drastic design-wise.

Disney loves their voice cast so if they can't get the original folks back the ones they will get will be damn near pitch perfect facsimiles.

I'm just wondering, if this is a success does that mean we could be seeing new Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, and/or Darkwing Duck series?

Looks fantastic. The art style is very retro and definitely Barksian, and folks working on the show say that Carl Barks and Don Rosa volumes populate the show's writing room, with several 'dog-eared' copies of Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck present. An example of this fidelity (besides the now comics-accurate red coat for Scrooge): the logo for the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook and Reservoir of Inexhaustible Knowledge is straight outta the comics - the Junior Woodchucks of the World acronym that, upside down, looks like an image of the Egyptian god Thoth.

Of course, not everything is comics accurate: Launchpad and Webby were characters unique to DuckTales, and both look great. Launchpad was a great character anyway (even Rosa, who's called DuckTales a 'counterfeit' version of Uncle Scrooge, likes him!), but Webby was a very annoying character it looks like they've improved substantially by making her an equal to the boys instead of a babyish tagalong. Huey, Dewey, and Louie all look to have separate personalities, too, whereas in the comics the act as a single character, often finishing each other's sentences or speaking in unison like the Shobojin. I understand that works easier on the page.

Wow! I was hoping for Craig Ferguson, but this is just as great. Steller voice cast. I assume Donald will be done by... err, whoever Disney has doing the voice now.

Never mind about Christmas in July. Disney Television Animation started working on "Duck the Halls" back in August of 2015


Part of the Emmy- and Annie-winning Mickey Mouse cartoon series, Duck the Halls includes cameos by Uncle Scrooge McDuck, nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, Professor Ludwig Von Drake, Gus Goose and of course, Santa Claus.

Looks great! Animation style similar to the Mickey shorts with a bit of Gravity Falls mixed in!

And now, things I geeked out as a Scrooge comics fan: Those are Carl Barks paintings on the wall! Scrooge recites his 'smarter than all the smarties' line from Uncle Scrooge #1! This show adopts the conceit from Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck that Scrooge has been retired and almost forgotten before roused back into action by his nephews!

... but, sadly, it appears Glomgold is still Scottish (we see a rather rotund Glomgold from the back for a few seconds wearing the same Scotsman garb he did in the original show).

^Donald out in front! I hope they'll adapt some of Barks' best Donald Duck focused stories now that he's be reestablished as a main character. I'd love to see Lost in the Andes, Ghost of the Grotto, The Golden Helmet, Vacation Time, etc.

Noticed another Barks reference in that teaser: the rhino (ridden by Huey, Dewey and Louie and with a flag tied to his horn) from 'So Far and No Safari.'
