FIREBREATHER

I missed the first showing Wednesday, but I caught tonight's showing of the animated movie Firebreather on Cartoon Network, and I can honestly say, I was pleasantly surprised!

The movie was a great tribute to Japanese monsters (in fact, all of the monsters are called "kaijuu"), which had colorful and appealing designs for once! (The main monster, Belloc, has an aptly Godzilla-like design.) The characters were actually good, and the hero, Duncan, recalls Gou Nagai's Devilman!

This special goes right up there with Sym-Bionic Titan as another worthy CN production!

So those who saw it, what do you think?

I recorded Firebreather and finally got a chance to watch it today. Pretty good movie, I enjoyed watching it.

The kaiju designs were pretty good, it's was nice to see that they weren't spindly/wiry affairs (such as Cloverfield's monster). The kaiju in Firebreather a bit shorter than the typical Showa era kaiju -- the main character's father was stated at 120ft (approx. 33.5m).

Firebreather might become the first CN original movie I buy on home video, largely due to the kaiju connection. It'll be interesting to see if CN continues the story, a TV show would work but it'd be nice to see it go on as a series of movies.

I wish I had known about this movie. It looked like a lot of fun. Also the fact that they used the term kaiju is tits. Japanese monsters might be more popular than people realize in America?
