Detective Renee Montoya was created for B:TAS and also made the jump to the comics; not too long before the New 52 stuff happened she became Vic Sage's protege and successor as the second Question.

And perhaps the first instance of created in another medium and becoming part of the original comic is Jimmy Olsen. Jimmy Olsen was originally created for the Superman radio show and quickly appeared in the comics too.

BONUS: Kryptonite also appeared on the Superman radio show first and then migrated over to the comics.

When did they give him the ability to fly? I thought that was in the radio show or the old school TV show.

Also Chloe from Smallville and while I thought Felicity Smoak from Arrow was as well turns out she an adaption of an older (mid-80's) DC character as well. Which was odd, since I could have sworn I read somewhere she was supposed to be a one episode character but everyone liked the character and/or actress so much they kept putting her in stuff in season 1. Weird to make take a comic book entity and making them a one shot character that isn't a villain of the week who gets offed by the end of the episode.

Superman started flying in the early 40s, I believe we have Fleischer Studios to thank for this development of Superman's powers. The Fleischer shorts started off with Superman leaping just like the comics, but to help cut down animating time (and some costs obviously) Fleischer Studios asked DC if they could just show Superman flying and it stuck.

My fondest television memories as a kid were reruns of "Batman: The Animated Series" in the mid-nineties. I had put-off rewatching it as an adult for years - I knew how much acclaim surrounded this series because of its dark and meaningful storytelling, but somehow I just didn't want to give in to the hype. But since I have exhausted all of my other Batman media (live action films, comics and the Arkham games), and saw the Volume One DVD set for only $15 at Wal-Mart, I decided to give it a try.

I'm now about half-way through Volume Two and I gotta say, I'm amazed at how great some of these episodes are. Despite the show's various limitations and formulas, many of these plots manage to pack in some excellent suspense, mystery, intrigue, action, moral complexity and character drama, and they now stand as some of my favorite works of the Batman character. This is some rich stuff.

Oh god yeah. Of course they are some of the best Batman stories ever told, a lot of them are direct adaptations of comic stories from the 70s. The Demon's Quest, Vertigo, Terrible Trio, Moon of the Wolf, Sideshow, and The Laughing Fish are just a few of them that were adaptations.

Heck yeah, just discovered this series is on Amazon prime now! I loved this show as a kid and haven't gotten to see it since it was in its original run. Can't wait to revisit it now!

For those who have the DVD sets, do they contain the original opening sequence and end credits? The version on Amazon prime streaming has some other intro and credits for some batman and superman adventure show with different music. It's not a deal breaker, but it's not nearly as good as the original.

The DVD set #4 (Which was known on TV as The Adventures of Batman & Robin) 1997-1998 has the option of using the original opening sequence or the Batman/Superman opening sequence for each episode. I'm not sure about the full series set as I do not have that, but I assume the discs would be the same as the individual volumes....could be wrong however

So I just watched the second episode and it had the proper opening and end credits. It looked like they were taken from a lousy vhs but at least it's better than that BandS intro from the first episode.

So, just for grins I decided to watch a couple of episodes, I've had them on DVD since they were first released. "Jokers Favor" may be my favorite episode of the series (if not its definitely in the top 5...). While it was not the first produced episode with the Joker, it was the first one to air on TV. In one episode it solidified that Mark Hamill was an amazing choice to voice the character and erased any doubts my 16 year old self had at the time. It also happened to be the world premiere of Harley Quinn. Now some 26 years later, I'm showing my kid this episode and they loved it!. It was played straight, but has so many great laughs. Seeing my kids react to this for the first time was amazing. Initially I wasn't going to get this series on Blu Ray as amazing as I'm sure it will look, just because of the cost involved, but now, I just may, as it will be a nice excuse to watch the series in its entirety all over again.

Hopefully we wont have much longer to wait. I'm sure some news will come from SDCC this year as the BD set is supposed to be released before end of year. I just wonder if it will be only the 85 Batman :TAS episodes or if it will include the additional 24 New Batman Adventures episodes. Though that latter series didn't look nearly as amazing as Batman TAS (as designs were simplified to match Superman TAS), I'd like to see them all together if possible.

But even watching them on standard DVD they look amazing. To think all those thousands upon thousands of cells all drawn by hand....no digital Ink and Paint, no computers, makes me really miss the pre-computer days of animation.

Whole Movie? Did something happen initially?

I just remember, I was 17 (almost 18) and in 12th grade when this came out late December 1993. It actually opened sometime around Christmas, and I remember being surprised (up until this time, I didn't even think movie theaters were open on Xmas heh...) .

My friends and I agreed we would go during the week sometime after Xmas, but before New Years. One of my friends couldn't wait, and his family went on xmas day, and unfortunately we never went as planned. I do remember it came out on VHS rather quickly, I recall renting it at Blockbuster video in February or March just after it had come out.

I'd love the opportunity to see it on the Big Screen, especially with my kids, who have seen it at home, and are a good age to take to something like this.

I disagree with a lot of the lowest entries here (like, The Last Laugh at 90th? C'mon. I think The Forgotten is really underrated too) and there's one high-ish entry that's...unconscionable (I've Got Batman in My Basement is one of the two or three worst episodes...not 35th), but that's a really good top ten.

Critters, Underdwellers, and I've Got Batman in My Basement are my top bottom episodes.

The Forgotten, Showdown, and Moon of the Wolf are some of the best, so they are way too high on that list.

At least most of their ones in the top 10 I can agree with.
