Thanks for pulling that info, Glow-nut. I've been meaning to look into what archival information might be available for budget/revenue on IMAX films.
It's worth noting that Amazon only lists 11 movies ever done for IMAX as being available on DVD, only 3 of those were originally 3D based, and none of them were released as 3D for home (I'm not sure the technologies are even transferrable).
The 3D Godzilla project from a few years ago (MONSTER PLANET OF GODZILLA, the 3D ride at Sanrio Puroland) looks AWFUL on DVD (included with the GODZILLA FINAL BOX set). Whether or not this new project would translate well to home video (2D or 3D) would likely depend on how they shoot it. Using conventional 3D IMAX cameras, a 3D IMAX film costs around $6-10 million dollars. BLUE MAGIC 3D was shot on a pair of Sony HDCAM and cost half of that, but has not yet seen a home video release (but an HDCAM based production would transfer quite easily to 2D home video).
In addition, the few that have made it to home video did so only after a year or more of screening in theaters. I believe only NASCAR 3D made it to home video in a year after release, most of the others took years.
Not trying to be a downer, just saying that if this project gets the greenlight, and if it gets released, there are still a few more ifs that will determine how and when you'll get to see it outside of an IMAX theater. Probably best to keep expectations in check for the time being.
