Wow! Small world. And I actually bought my tickets for Saturday as well! Can't wait to watch this movie again.

I know that anecdotal evidence isn't worth much, but:
1. My fiancee can't stand most anime, especially DBZ, but has (of her own volition) watched many a Godzilla film with me, and is excited to go this weekend!
2. In college, a few of my roommates/classmates/some other friends would get together every other weekend for "Pajanime" nights, where we'd get in our PJs and watch DBZ. We started at the beginning and made it up to the Majin Buu saga. We even made "Pajanime" t-shirts. I don't recall them ever watching a Godzilla movie with me.

Saw it again! Audience was even better this time: laughed at the jokes and applauded at the end. Slightly smaller crowd than Tuesday: a bit more than half full then, a bit less than half full now.

As I was sitting there watching the credits (excellent medley of classic Ifukube tracks!) I thought to myself that I hope to be in this same seat same time next year for the Godzilla anime film!

From what I've read (mostly on GMAN's twitter) despite the limited theaters and showtimes Shin Godzilla has stayed consistently in 10th place at the B.O., made over a million, and has had the highest per-theater average of any movie. It may not be as successful for Funimation as that DBZ movie, but it's doing quite well.

Going to my second viewing this afternoon!

I went again with family on Saturday night. We saw it at the Showtime Movie Grill in Rocklin. Sold out!

I've read a few folks say on various social media that Funi will reveal their home video details for Shin Godzilla right after the theatrical run ends.

Has anyone actually heard this, or is it just wishful thinking that's spread as though it were a fact?

^Pretty cool that they think Shin Godzilla's release is a viable model for how indie films could typically be released.

Weekend actuals are in! is reporting that Shin Godzilla made $455,036 in North America over the weekend. BOM's erroneously lists it as playing in just 34 theaters on the whole weekend, for a wildly inaccurate per-theater average gross figure of over $13k, but 34 was just the Sunday theater number.

It played in 26 theaters on Friday and earned $52,133 for a per-theater average of $2,005.
It played in 311 theaters on Saturday and earned $327,679 for a per-theater average of $1,054.
It played in 34 theaters on Sunday and earned $75,224 for a per-theater average of $2,212.

(The nearest theaters to me were only playing it on Saturday at 1:30pm over the weekend.)

Shin Godzilla has made $1,501,390 in North America and it still has more showings today and tomorrow. Regarding Funimation releases, the $8m total of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F is out of reach but Shin Godzilla has already more than tripled the earnings of The Boy and the Beast or either of the Attack on Titan films.

Last day. The theater across town is the only one that has this last showing, but since that's my favorite local theater it's just a good excuse to see Shin Godzilla in something better than the middling theater I've already seen it at.

Canadians get a screening tomorrow and a final one next Monday. I'm going to the former, but probably not the latter. I just have other things to do.

^That's a sign of success, people! 200 theaters get another Saturday matinee and a select few theaters (I'm guessing in major cities?) will get regular, daily screenings for the rest of the month.

I'm only getting the Saturday matinee, but I'll miss it because of work... but I'm not sad: just left my third viewing and the theater was full!

They recognize it did HUGE on Saturday (when most people can go see it). I think the only reason Tuesday the 10th did more business than Saturday the 15th was because all the G-fans turned out en masse. Glad its getting a few more dates, including more Saturdays. I've only seen it once, and did not plan on seeing it again, but I just may.

Sci-Fi Japan lists the 200 theaters getting the matinee and the 14 theaters with daily screenings until the 27th.

^ The Regal Biltmore Grande in Asheville, NC is listed on there but they don't have Shin Godzilla listed for Saturday on either their website or Fandango. I just called the theater and they confirmed that it is not playing there tomorrow.
