G2012: Multiple Monsters?

This is all about Godzilla, but when I hear that name I think of the whole universe full of characters. I'd want to see someone from the old series; Anguirus, Rodan. And there definitely should be a new monster. Ushering in a fresh creature in the company of familiar faces is the best formula, I think.

And as much as King Ghidorah has been overused by Toho, I would also be thrilled at seeing him brought to life with big special effects (as long as he isn't too serpentine, like a stereotypical dragon). Too bad we probably won't see him, since he'd cost Legendary more dollars. So presumably they have every right to use Angilas, Varan, Gigan, etc., right? Hell, they might as well throw in a Toho kaiju. They're paying for them anyway.

As for having other creatures potentially taking the spotlight away from Godzilla, I point to Godzilla 2000. To me, that was a perfect "comeback" movie, plain and simple. Godzilla, of course, rocked the house, fought the military, and trounced on another monster. That's the way to go, I think. Actually, I'll probably be citing that movie a lot; from the suit design, the selective use of Ifukube (not too much or too little), G2000 perfectly exemplifies the type of "feel" Legendary should be going for. As long as: 1. Godzilla is not green 2. His breath is not orange.

I'm calling it now: this film will feature another kaiju opposite Godzilla.

Warner Bros. and Legendary have said they wished to emphasize the best aspects of the cultural icon that is Godzilla, and they obviously want to make a completely different film than what D&E ultimately envisioned. What Godzilla is best known for in the States are his countless battles with bizarre aliens, giant mutations, mechanized terrors, benevolent deities, and the occasional cyborg chicken. The film may simply be titled 'Godzilla,' but he will face an enemy that poses a significant threat.

What would The Dark Knight be without The Joker? It would be Superman Returns. They've learned that lesson (the Superman sequel will feature a super powered villain), and that lesson will carry over into this film. Mark my words.

If there is an opponent that has flying capabilities, I'd like to see a scene where it's perched on the top of a building only to have it blasted out from under it...the next scene could be a reveal as Godzilla's silhouette is seen through the dust...a glow begins to charge..perhaps we see some of the airborne debris start igniting against the dorsals...the dusty air heaves as he inhales and then maybe a moderate blast cuts through the dust to knock back the opponent...the heat vaporizing a hole in the dust that gives way to a clear look at G, a battle roar and we are ready to fight.

Or not...I'm really hoping we see some cool visuals not possible before. Not just the monsters but things like the radioactive breath and how it could warp the air because of it's heat. They did some of that in Millennium which I liked.

I'm for Godzilla squaring off against another monster. A big classic Toho daikaiju battle is what will really sell the movie to the audience.

A solo Godzilla movie won't really get across to audiences that this is a daikaiju film and not just another giant monster movie. If it's just Godzilla strolling around the city, reviewers and audiences will probably parallel the movie with Cloverfield. It will almost be an anti-buzz effect, dissuading audience interest with thoughts of "I'll just rent Cloverfield, and save money".

Yeah, I mean I've said it before in here, but I think seeing two monsters beat the crap out of each other is a bigger draw than just Godzilla trashing a city. Plus I'd like to see a new kaiju.
