I know for certain they will never produce another non-Godzilla kaijuu eiga. Ever.

Their last effort, Yamato Takeru, was a box office failure.

Not counting the Heisei Mothra trilogy, that is. Those fared no better.

Toho no longer has any imagination. They can't do anything beyond Godzilla anymore, let alone any more Godzilla movies! Tanaka, Honda, Tsuburaya and the rest are long gone. They're more interested in one-upping Hollywood movies, but with as little money as possible. (Cost is why they don't like doing tokusatsu eiga much, not to mention being haunted by the legacy of Eiji Tsuburaya.)

I guess tokusatsu kaijuu eiga is better left to other companies...

I think the genre is in a pretty sad state right now, and that Toho is more interested in money than making true quality films. I, for one, hope that some young Japanese talent comes through Toho to breathe fresh air into the genre. It won't be soon though, I'm sure.

Maybe it's a pipe dream, but one can hope.

Sad as it is, I think it's time to look beyond Toho - I don't expect them to do much in the way of kaiju at all, Godzilla or otherwise, in the foreseeable future.

Toho has given up on creating more kaiju movie. They are giving their creations to other companies to made some more money from them.

Why did we need another thread about this again?

I'm sure Toho would like the same thing! But the fact is, Toho doesn't always put "a lot of money" into their kaiju films, so they need to give a little more with today's audiences, in order to get back. (Though as in the case of Final Wars, it also needs to be something the audience fanbase can connect with, otherwise it's money wasted). Besides, a lot can be done with a low budget in the proper hands (as some kaiju films have shown), so it wouldn't even have to make a ton of money to still be profitable.

Anyways, I suppose there IS the possibility that Toho may never make another non Godzilla kaiju film, but I prefer to have faith that the day will come.
