I'll repost my former response from the related thread:

HOOOOOOo boy. Let the speculation begin.

25% of me has the highest hopes. 25% of me aint holdin my breath. 50% of me feels kinda touchy about the entire prospect to the point of where I'm gonna have to do some work on myself to NOT think that this is gonna be the worst kind of failure should this come to pass and SCORN it every step of the way.

I feel pulled in every direction over this. Yuck.

That about sums ME up on this.

I've said it before but I don't see why a major studio wouldn't want to make a Godzilla movie. But this scoop doesn't seem particularly revelatory.

Kinda' like "WB wants to make a new Superman flick". Well of course they want to make a new Superman flick! Now where's the director, script, cast, producer, etc., etc., etc.

Until anything is truly confirmed, this news has piqued my interest!

Hopefully, Legendary Pictures will get it right this time. Maybe. And this time, if this deal is serious, Toho best start flexing their creative muscles and not allow any radical "changes" to be made!

So right now, I'm cautiously optimistic. If it turns out to be true, I'm sure we'll all keep tuning in...

Holy crap. Of course I will not be nearly excited as I was when I first saw the GINO trailer back in '96 or '97 or whatever, but I can't help feeling giddy. I've had this small feeling that we'd have a Godzilla project of some sort to look forward to soon, and here we go!

...I mean, we can't screw up twice, can we?

they'll mess it up, want it to be "realistic". already tried that, failed miserably.

^You don't know that. There has been quite a variety in the genre films and blockbusters produced recently and it is hard to identify one trend.

I see this studio produced the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are. Have Spike Jones direct this Godzilla movie, wouldn't that be a trip?

Maybe they'll make it dark! :)

At this point I'm completely over Toho's take on Godzilla. Even when they resurrect the franchise again, they'll still yearly pump out cheap, stale, cookie cutter films, which completely ignore the advances of modern special fx, the sensibilities of modern film making, and with the budget & production schedule of a typical Saw film. There's a reason why the kaiju genre is practically non-existent in modern Japanese cinema: there isn't an audience for these half-assed phoned in efforts anymore. Hopefully the new Daimajin brings something new to the table.

I have faith that Legendary Pictures won't screw this up. They already have a blueprint on what not to do with GINO. Hopefully they give this to a talented up and coming director like Neill Blomkamp.
