I love Uematsu's music, I do think it would somewhat attract his fans, but I really do prefer Ifukube's scores. I know that the legend has passed away, but I think that if Uematsu-san were to do the score, he would have to improvise using Ifukube's music as an influence. I believe that Ifukube's music is what gave life to Godzilla's movies.

But as I've said before, an opinion is an opinion!

Sugiyama's score is wonderfully arranged on the album, but the Ifukube inserts in the film are very detracting and distracting, and on the bonus cues on the CD, they sound really flat and mis-representative of what his music was really like.

Hattori's score for Gv.SG was okay, but I would have loved it if Sugiyama was brought back to give that film an extra bit of spice. Helps that the film is connected to Gv.B, too.

Nobuo Uematsu sounds too Richard Wagner to me (proto-Nazi, anyone?). I too would like to hear new sounds for Godzilla. It's probably way too avant garde for this crowd, but Philip Glass's music lends itself to some real possibility. In the same light, I was totally pleased with what Kou Ohtani did in the GMK soundtrack. I listen to it while sculpting and on long trips... perfect.

Get thee to a history book, son! When I said proto-Nazi, I damn sure meant it. He was as nationalistic and assured of the firm belief of German superiority AS THEY GET. He was an archetype of these ideologies that, yes, preceded Hitler, AND formed what Hitler subscribed to. All about it. "Colonizing" and "glory" and ev-er-y-thing.

Fraid so.

But yeah, Kou Ohtani is the zhit. Hope we get more of him.

I do to. His scores for G3 and GMK were great. G3 would be perfect if there was a little synth piece like when Yuri and that guy fell in the water and were saved by Ghidorah in GMK.

pass on Ko Otani completely.

as far as Wagner, he sure was a complex man. just reading the wiki page is eye opening. thanks for the recommendation.

I'd still rather have Wagner score Godzilla than Otani. yuech.

Well, he is dead.

Too bad Jerry Goldsmith or Ennino Morricone could not do a Goji score.

Wagner's second wife, Cosima, was Franse Liszt's daughter of all things and was also the 3rd corner of the "love triangle" involving Fredrick Nietzsche (and I mean "love triangle" in the sense that it existed in Nietzsche's mind since she had no clue until after he fell ill with syphilis, and Wagner had already kicked the bucket).

Back on topic! All I have to say is:

Kou Ohtan, GMK, 39:08 = GOD(zilla). :rockon:

Too bad Ko Otani has not done more with Vocals. Especialy if GMK Goji was up against Orochi and a bunch of Yokai, that would defiently require epic music.
