Actually, the Godzilla dream sequence is from the sequel, ALWAYS: ANOTHER SUNSET ON THIRD STREET (Always Zoku San Chome-no Yuhi), or ALWAYS 2, which was just released to Japanese theaters on November 3 (last Saturday, Japan time). The first ALWAYS, from Takashi Yamazaki, the director of JUVENILE and RETURNER, was a megahit at the box office and the winner of 12 out 13 nominations from the Japanese Academy Awards. The films star Hidetaka Yoshioka (THE HIDDEN BLADE), Shinichi Tsutsumi (LORELEI), Koyuki (THE LAST SAMURAI) and Hiroko Yakushimaru (LEGEND OF THE EIGHT SAMURAI). Kenta Suga, the child actor from GFW also appears in both films (he recently appeared in Episode 31 of GEKIRANGER).
IMHO, ALWAYS is pure genius, funny and moving, with incredible CG which lovingly re-creates the Tokyo of the late 1950s, a Tokyo that no longer exists (I only saw remnants of that old Tokyo in the 1980s, which were vanquished by 1990). The first ALWAYS made the rounds at several US film festivals and garnered strong reviews. I highly recommend it -- and I can't wait to see ALWAYS 2!
Legit, inexpensive DVDs with English subs of the first ALWAYS are available from Thailand and HK -- check eBay or reputable DVD dealers.
