GFW was the antithisis of him being the anti-hero...in the beginning he was a villian that was buried in ice, then, when the world goes to hell in a hand basket, we go wake his ass up and let him do his thing.
The one thing he never has been, and that is a villian....
Think about it, in G 54, he was a scourge to Japan as a result of nuclear testing...without our intervention, he never would have existed. Like it was said in G 85, he is a tragic creature.
Most times, he was the anti hero looking to protect his turf as was stated before.
Finally, in a couple movies he was somthing of a guardian to people, or at least not totally uncaring to the humans...I think Gigan to TOMG where they were actually glad to see him, and even Smog Monster, he worked a bit with the humans to gain victory.
Then it was back to kickin ass for kickin ass' sake.
I think the analogy of him being a force of nature is a good one to go by.
We know he's out there, more powerful than we can contain. Any number of circumstances can bring about an appearance, our meddling, another monster....you get the picture. We are well aware of the destruction that will occur when he does visit, but in the end, he will return to the sea for a hopefully long nap. A hurricane is agreat analogy, you see it comming, nothing you can really do...you don't like them but you learn to live with it and rebuild, and do your best to just stay out of harms way.
Godzilla himself, is the atomic bomb....the most powerful weapon on the planet of which it's power is hopefully never realized, and in the case of attack, he is the planet's, not our, last defence.
You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!
