My Hopes For A New Godzilla Series...
If we are posting on here, it's safe to say that we would LOVE another Godzilla series at some point, but I will have to be honest and say that the last series (1999 - 2004) didn't hardly excite me at all.
I was brainstorming at work today and thought of a few things that would help make the next G-Series a much better effort.
- Toho needs to focus on GODZILLA (the monster) and stop trying to re-make American films within the Godzilla storylines. X-Men, Aliens, Matrix, Indiana Jones, Terminator...it seems like they don't even try to desguise the fact either.
- Please no more giant robots built by humans or Super X's - I'm SO tired of those. Come up with a new plot device instead of "...the army builds Super X 23". It was somewhat interesting in G85, but after that I didn't care.
- Too much human drama that no one cares about. Yes, I would like to see an original story line with original characters, but I watch Godzilla films because I want to see GODZILLA and lots of him, in the recent films, it seems as if he's NEVER going to show up. G54 is really the only film that this doesn't apply to.
- PLEASE no more alien invasion stories - they really haven't been good since TOMG. Those aliens in FINAL WARS were awful. King Ghidorah could still work, but he would have to be a solo "destroyer of planets" and not controlled by an alien race.
- The OVER USE of certain monsters, give Mothra, Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla a rest - there is a whole cannon of Godzilla villians just waiting to be brought back. I was upset because Final Wars looked as if we were finally getting some cool monsters back, then they're only onscreen for mere seconds and then it's back to Mothra and Ghidorah.
- No more BAD CGI merged with monster suits. I would say leave GCI out of the Godzilla series for good. We get enough of that as it is. Suitmation is perfectly fine.
...I hope that Toho might consider these concerns for a new series.
