The very last line of the article is "Netflix is also set to premiere the second installment of its Godzilla anime trilogy later this week."

That sure sounds like it means Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle will be streaming on Netflix this weekend. If they mean Netflix will be screening it at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, they must just mean that it will be the French theatrical premiere because it already played in Japanese theaters last month. Saturday is the last day of the film festival and Sunday is the last day of the week so I guess we'll know soon enough whether we'll be watching the new Godzilla movie this weekend.

Saturday would be an optimal release day; the first movie came out on a weekday and I got up real early to watch it before work and I was basically half-dead.

Well, so much for that rumour. Monday would make sense as a release date, since that's exactly a month since the theatrical release, but I'm not holding my breath.

Someone I trust told me July would be a similar length from Japan to Netflix as the first one.

Since I really don’t care about this thing and may or may not even watch it, I’ll just leave it to someone more motivated to look up the date that might be.

Planet of the Monsters opened in Japan back on November 18 and was on Netflix worldwide two months later on January 17, a Wednesday. That was a 60-day window.

City on the Edge of Battle opened in Japan on May 19. Another 60-day turnaround would put it on Netflix on July 18, also a Wednesday.

^That would place it a day before San Diego Comic Con, where we all hope (and pray) to see the first actual promotion for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. If the stars align it may be quite the week for Godzilla!

^ kind of like in Japan, when there is a weekly anime or live action toku series, and they plan "52" episodes for a one year story, but they find out that the day the show airs has only occurs 51 times, so they have to truncate things, or even worse, there is an extra one, so they have to stretch it to 53.

Netflix deserves credit for promoting it alongside their other high-profile originals.
