I second that. There should be some nod to complete regeneration after an injury where scars (or any other trace of injury) become non-existant in a very short period of time. This has always been a staple of the Godzilla mythos. Either his hide cannot be breached by weapons or he heals quickly due to his regenerative powers. It's what makes him indestructible.

I'm for the healing power, but I don't see why we need it really. It didn't even come into play until the Heisei series. In fact, the original Goji suit's hide was designed to look slightly deformed/charred from the nuclear blast.

If Godzilla is constantly covered with weird morphing effects as he heals it'll take away from the desired effect of him seeming like a real, live animal (as opposed to some alien or mystical creature, where something weird like that may be more appropriate).

You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!

Eh, I don't feel like a few shots of regeneration will be that bad. He won't be covered with morphing effects constantly. I can't think of any reason they'd do that.

Maybe it's just because I haven't really seen any digital morphing effects that I've been happy with. It always looks too digital to me and not natural.

They should definitely show Godzilla healing but the thing to keep in mind is that most physical trauma wouldn't even damage his hide in the first place. It would be cool to see his rapid regeneration after getting impaled by another monster.

I've always liked the idea of Godzilla being able to use his atomic breath in different ways. He should be able to alternate between using a solid white-hot stream and a misty radiation cloud at will.

Remember "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" in the scene where he "regenerates" on an island by getting struck by lightning? Something similar should be shown in the new film after a near death battle.

Looks like I am in the minority here but I think both of this guy's Godzilla designs are perfect. The problem with a lot of American designers that arien't familiar with Godzilla usually aim in two directions. Either the dinosaur look or the lizard look. Godzilla doesn't look like either. He has a look unique only to him and I think that is what I love about these designs. They don't look like a T-Rex with fins or...well...what we got in 1998. For that same reason is why I like Stan Winston's Godzilla so much.

I am just REALLY hoping we don't get a dinosaur with fins like what William Stout wanted or another big Iguana.

A great example are these supposed "rejected designs" for the new film:

Now if they are real or not is beside the point. Just look at how bland and uninspired they look. I am sure there are hundreds of sketches that look just like this in the concept artists' offices.

Another example is how a normally famous and talented artist like Eric Powell sees Godzilla:

And then we look at the past when American designers were given a shot at Godzilla:

Again, bland and uninspired. I don't know what it is but when it comes to American artists given the task of designing Godzilla it just seems like they do it in their sleep. These interpretations have no soul or fury to them. They are just generic and boring . Yes I know the HB and Marvel Godzillas were done in the 70's, I am simply illustrating a point that comparing those designs to Powell's you can see not much has changed in how normally talented artists see Godzilla through the years. Hell, even that teaser image we got last year at Comic-con was the same generic look. I don't want another one of those (don't make me whip out the Mattel Godzilla toy images!), I want something original yet when you look at it you know it is Godzilla! That is what I personally like about Cheung Chung Tat's designs.

This is, by a wide margin, the most T. rex-looking interpretation of Godzilla on this page:

/\ I agree its definitely the most T-Rexish design on this page by far. Nothing about that says "Godzilla" to me. I don't mind it, but unless that's just the head of a body that has more of G's signature traits, it just looks like a dino. If you showed me that and asked me what its a picture of I'd say "Uh, a dinosaur." NOTHING about that looks like Godzilla, where at least the Marvel/HB/Stout/Powell/Comic-Con designs all have traits that are at least obviously "Godzilla-inspired." At least some of those (Powell, Comic-Con) actually look something like Godzilla.
