I'm open to new ideas. New ideas are great. If there was a new idea out there that could revitalize Godzilla and stay true to the character I'd be all for it. But horror or dark elements, for me, don't stay true to the character at all. Saying people like me are selfish and want to keep Godzilla all to ourselves and don't want to share him because we don't want violent, dark and scary Godzilla movies are immature arguments.
Godzilla definitely is different things to different people, but I don't see how he can be dark, scary, violent and disturbing to some people when perhaps outside of the very first movie he really hasn't been like that.
It's just baffling to me how, among 28 Japanese made Godzilla movies, some people pick the 2 or 3 films they consider dark and insist that these are the best and most representative Godzilla movies. I could play the same game and say Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster and Monster Zero are the best and most representative Godzilla movies. Because that's truly how I feel.
Godzilla doesn't belong to me, King_Ghidorah. He's not mine to share. But I've been a fan for 25 years and I have strong feelings about the way he should be treated. Period.
