they are (somewhat understandably) over-protective of their trademark. mst used a print without their permission, so of course it got yanked. i'm sure they didn't bother to ask Toho for permission or try to get the rights. Marvel sued (and lost) the b/w "Champions" comic book since they hadn't kept using the name for their "Champions" team. they sued and won on Marvelman, turning him into Miracleman (which is funny, since Marvelman was Captain Marvel of "Shazam!" fame originally until DC stopped that for "infringing" on Superman (but really the big crime was outselling him)).
all corporations keep an eye out for such things, they have to. sometimes it gets silly, and i'd think Subway falls under "parody" or "satire".
of course, Toho hasn't gone after Scott Steiner for calling himself "Freakzilla".
