Besides, neither the story (nor I) said "it would help falling sales". It said (approximately) that this was of interest because of the poor performance of traditional Hollywood movies this past year, and the rise of the home theater. He is not the only person to say this, btw. A lot of studios and production companies and exhibitors are looking to everything from digital to 3D to bring people back to the theater. One of the most talked about stories at ShoWest earlier this year was about re-re-releasing the Original STAR WARS trilogy using a new 3D technology. Rumor has it that James Cameron has been holding off on ALITA until his 3D technology was in place.
So no point in bashing Banno for what seems to truly be industrywide interest in the technique.
