Will Satomi have subtitles? :^)

When I get the art book, there are some of her English lines I'll have to double-check in the script tbh fam.

By the way, I've posted this on my blog, but her character is more or less Asuka from Evangelion.

Kayoko Ann Patterson
Asuka Langley Soryu

Both child geniuses (I caught that Kayoko graduated from Harvard at age 15 on her document briefly seen in the film--there's more info but you only get a split second to see the page), both half Japanese foreign agents coming into Japan to help fight off invading monsters.

Tried staying away from spoilers (still am in regards to specifics) but I saw those Bandai toys and honestly I have no problem with the lifecycle. It reminds me of Godzilla's original origin as a transitional species, only here's it's done in a Junji Ito kaiju body horror sort of way.

If anything alarms me it's comments about the movie's politics. I have to admit I know very little about the modern political climate in Japan, but I have seen it described as very conservative, overtly traditional and bureaucratic. If the movie confronts the government on these issues, isn't that a good thing?
I've also seen the military scenes being criticized, but don't most monster movies have extended sequences with military hardware?

Some interesting thoughts here. Some early paragraphs will very much help me enjoy the first act more with that context in mind:

Believe or not I am not pooing on you Gigan. You did fine.

While the reviewer is probably correct about facts from the movie he is being kind of a smug ass about it when it comes to your review.

The sea rose as a wall of sharp spines sliced thru the surface. The water boiled and churned as fish of all species floated on their sides, dead. Godzilla, the demon god had emerged.

Just a few of my thoughts on what I have seen, read, heard:

Totally ok with the design and how the film tells the story. Godzilla's beginning...well..the whole salamander concept, it works with me. Godzilla didn't just appear out of no where. He had to start from "something" so I am ok with seeing the evolution of Godzilla with this new origin. Yes, it is different and I am ok with that.

The talk of all the meetings in the film sounds tiring just reading about it but from my understanding this pretty much shows how the Japanese would deal with a crises in such magnitude.

Godzilla's new powers: Fine with me. Sure, the tail beam is a bit of a stretch but wasn't the tail dragging drop kick in Megalon? Flying in Hedorah? Turning into a magnet in GvMechaGodzilla 1974? The new nuclear pulse/lasers from his dorsal plates works. I can get past the split bottom jaw.

All in all, with all the news we have heard in just 4-5 days after the movies release, I am ok with it all. It was really time for a change. Most people don't welcome change with something they have become so familiar with. Everything evolves.

And about the cliffhanger ending...it leaves more questions that need answering. I am sure Godzilla will wake up from said man made hibernation. Those skeletons reaching out of Godzilla's tail? Maybe those are the people that were supposedly missing from the yacht that were researching Godzilla in the beginning of the film? Maybe they mutated along with Godzilla hence their Goji like appearance featuring dorsal plates on their backs. Who knows!

I don't think comparing all the changes that Godzilla has gone though in 60 years is the same as what we have with Shin Godzilla. Yes, Godzilla flew, changed into magneto, danced, changed beam colors, and tail slid. The thing is, that happened over a span of decades, whereas this film makes as many changes to the character in one single movie. It's really not the same. Your mileage will vary on how accepting you will be of Shin G, but I really don't think this is in the same ballpark.

Lots of changes at once was a risky decision even for Toho to fly with. Nonetheless, change was needed. Can't be the same old song and dance over and over again. I like everything that I have seen thus far. Not the worst and not the best but at least it is something different. Totally gives us something to talk about it for a long time.

I don't find anything wrong with change in general - a fresh perspective and approach are all fine. The question is going to be whether or not this Godzilla film is a) any good and b) true to the character. A lot of people say it is. A lot of people say it's not.

When you drastically alter something so much, you can expect it to be pretty divisive. I pretty much hate most of what I've seen except some of the cool effects shots. I hope I'm wrong - come on Funimation, give us a release date!
