Now to wait what Anno has wrote.

It gets me curious how much terrifying Godzilla will get in this version, the GMK version was the most "evil" version till now (considering it was possessed).

I don't know if Godzilla is going to stare down people like he did in GMK.

I can't find the article at the moment but Higuchi commented on how he didn't want the audience to know what the Titan's were thinking. That in itself can be very scary.

I'm thinking that might be the approach. Despite Cloverfields flaws it did a good job making he creature scary because it's intentions were never clear.

scarier than this....

If you visualize something like that looking down at you is freakier than the non pupil Godzilla. I always thought GMK was far more badass than scary.

I'd actually dig a "period piece" Godzilla, as the only way that's ever remotely been attempted has been some half-baked "in the future" stuff. But a set-in-the-past G-flick could definitely be intriguing for uniqueness' sake.

A period piece would be sick. However I think a Godzilla that is going to be in excess of 355ft in a 50's Tokyo skyline might look goofy.

Xvgojira pretty much took the words out of my mouth. That's just the article/quotes we've already seen regurgitated with a couple lines of editorializing. It's no new information, just someone extrapolating from their own brain, and slapping a catchier headline on it to draw in clicks.

Higuchi said something recently, and I've been mulling it over. I believe it was on that ABC interview, which I now can't find (the link now takes me to the main page for their Entertainment/Lifestyle section). He said something to the effect of the Godzilla franchise deviating too much from the core concept over the years, acquiring baggage that should be shed. It's a sentiment that's been popular for decades, circulating heavily among Toho itself in the years before the first reboot in '84, and I've always felt it was... well, kind of stupid.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with going back to core concepts. I liked that Godzilla '14 was a '50s style monster-on-the-loose throwback. But the truth of that matter is that during the golden age of the Godzilla series, the period that set the bar for the franchise in terms of popularity and influence, was also the most outrageous and removed from Godzilla '54. The four movies that Honda directed from '62 to '65 are completely bonkers stories that stretch Godzilla way beyond what he was before. King Kong vs. Godzilla is a spoof, Ghidorah is a romantic comedy/splashy spy caper (despite Bond influence it's actually a bit more like Charade or North by Northwest), Monster Zero is a full-on space adventure in the vein of Star Trek and Forbidden Planet!

You could say Mothra vs. Godzilla is traditional in the sense of Godzilla's character (certainly not in Godzilla fighting a mystical god who associates with fairies), but actually it presents the most important pivot in the franchise in making Godzilla more force of nature than villain. Since the '80s it's this version of Godzilla that's been the most common.

The films of the last few decades have, by and large, played it safe, at least when compared to the wild experimentation of the strongest period in the franchise's history.

^ I think the things you might want to "shed" are the Millennium series insistence in shoe horning in some sort of "Science Team" a la Ultraman, and the Heisei eras penchant for human characters that only exist to narrate what is occurring with the monsters.

I hate 'em too...more prevalent in the Heisei series, though...especially in terms of utter and absolute disconnect from the plot. At least when we saw people in a control room in the Millennium series, they were in same way previously directly connected with one of the main characters who's out in the fray with the kaiju at the moment, so we (theoretically) are rooting for the guy sitting at his computer because he's trying to help a main character.

According to Gormaru Island and , shooting has begun today.

Not entirely sure if the source means shooting begins Sept. 1st or otherwise, though. Can anyone find another source that claims it's begun?

Haven't posted in ages but really looking forward to what they have in store!

With the Tsunami and fukushima nuclear disaster they have a new set of real-lfe parallels with this Godzilla. I'm expecting a lot of disaster (the good kind).

I hope they have a monster brawl in there, too, if only as a third act climax.
