If you crunch the numbers thats about a $95 million profit for Universal.
But making a $95 million profit off of a $207 million investment is considered modest. Studios like to make thier budgets back in pure profit. I think Universal was expecting
King Kong to pull in $600-$800 worldwide.
On the postive side, I exchanged E-Mails with the guy who runs
www.the-numbers.com and he estimated
King Kong brought in roughly $300 million worldwide via DVD sales. That would mean it made over $800 million. Thats not including the almost $40 million in DVD rentals (North America) and almost $30 million for the television rights.
