Oh, that thing. I tried watching it, and some of the FXs are interesting in a "oh, look what anyone can do these days" kind of way. But the pretentious dialog and the overall serious tone made it zero fun. It's a good example (to me anyway) that fans really don't know what works. They use adjectives to describe their perfect Godzilla film. Like, I want a "serious" film, or I want a "heavy" Godzilla film. What does this mean? They can say these things because they are just sitting around. It's entirely a different thing to stand up in front of a crew of professionals and say, "we are going to make a film where people feel the power of Godzilla." This isn't tangible. It's like a political speech that makes you feel good when listening, but when you walk away you have no idea what you're supposed to do with it.
Like with this "book" / "script"... it just goes to show that "true fans" should not be allowed to work in the field of their obsession. Sorry to have to say this...
In fact, I have a story where a Japanese writer doing a big piece on Godzilla was banned from the set for two-weeks for being too otaku. In the film world, passion for filmmaking is a must, not insane passion for the thing.
Hope this posts makes sense...
