Toho has just released a teaser for their upcoming Godzilla vs Gigan 50th Anniversary short film celebration, "Godzilla vs Gigan Rex", due for release November 3rd!

I really like this redesign! It stays faithful to his classic Showa appearance while also being an obviously sleeker, modern update. And the Godzilla design looks similar to the recent ride version too, which is cool.

Last year's Hedorah short was great. I just hope Toho doesn't decide to scrub this one entirely from the face of the internet again like they did there.

Well, judging by the pics of the miniature cityscape that are showing up on social media they're filming [i]something[/i] right now. Who can guess the scale of what it is?

Yup, that's very cool that they are indeed doing something live-action as well! Between both of these things I'm definitely looking forward to this year's stream, even though I won't be able to understand 99% of it!

Love the new twists on classic elements of Gigan's design, and tying it in to a previous movie (I won't say which just yet because I doubt the spoiler tags work anymore) was a cool touch too! I was grinning ear to ear watching this!

Now the wait begins for the live-action short!

Great stuff. Lots of interesting powers and varied fight choreography, plus some goosebump moments with the music selected and the callbacks to older movies.

This animated short is a lot of fun, and it makes a great companion piece to the live-action short. It's so nice to see Godzilla vs. Gigan get this pair of tributes for its 50th anniversary, with one done in a modern computer-animated style and the other in an old-fashioned style with suits and miniatures.

From what I've gathered, the Japanese YouTube channel GEMSTONE is affiliated with Toho and they held a Godzilla fan film contest back in 2019. One of the contest's six winners was the 9-minute short that served as the pilot episode for Godziban, while another winner was the 1-minute computer-animated short G vs. G, directed by Takuya Uenishi, in which Godzilla battles Gigan. This new animated short Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex is a sequel to G vs. G, again directed by Uenishi and this time produced by Toho.

Fathom will be bringing Tokyo SOS to theaters March 22, and they're apparently showing the Gigan Rex short before the feature.
