Forums possibly going away

Hey folks. The URL is coming up for renewal next month, and I'm going to let monsterzero.us lapse.

Just wanted to give folks a heads up, as by mid-July the forum may poof...not sure, truthfully.

I miss Aaron; he was like a brother to me. BUT, it's been a long time, and this place really isn't salvageable at this point. I know people still post here but it's pretty much dead.

Stupid question - I don’t access this forum with the URL monsterzero.us, why would its lapse mean the forums go away? I mean, fair enough if they’re closing either way, just wondering.

OK, Fair question Baltan...maybe it won't. Truthfully I don't understand the back end of this and how the hosting works. I wish I knew someone who understood phpBB and could help us fix the mess that this board fell into but since Aaron passed this board has kinda been on borrowed time.

I have no interest in continuing to pay the fees for the URL, but if the board stays it's fine by me. The URL expires 07/14

Fingers crossed nothing ends up happening and that the board stays up as a result of being part of Sci-Fi Japan. But if we really do end up only having a few weeks left on here then thanks for at least giving us a heads-up; and for keeping the lights on for this long.

It's a shame more people didn't return at least to check on this place out of curiosity after it broke and see that it was actually still possible to post here. I'm afraid I've got no knowledge or experience with phpbb or anything like that either, or I'd gladly offer to help. It'll certainly be a sad day for Godzilla fandom though if next month really is the end. I've never had any real motivation to post on any of the other boards over the years mostly because I've always loved the vibe of this place in comparison, not to mention places like Toho Kingdom always just seemed too busy.

Either way I'll be sticking around 'til the end, one way or another, so until then I'll just be hoping that that the end turns out to be a lot further off than three weeks away!

Thanks for the heads up.

I love this place. It was my first online home, and no other place has been as comfy. While social media and YouTubers and podcasts have taken over the utility of boards I don't think any of them hold a candle to how a place like this can provide news and discussion. I'm happy to have had a few more years with this place since it seemed dead for good the last time.

Also this doesn't have anything to do with the forum (thankfully), and you probably already know about this Gene, but yesterday I was getting malicious page redirect that my anti-virus kept blocking every time I tried to access the main site, and now it looks like it's down completely. So something definitely seems to have been comprimised there.

I've emailed Keith about those main site issues. Hopefully they can be fixed and both the site and this board can keep on going.

Even though i don't post anymore, I still check in on you all every few months. I hope this place still operates even after the domain expires. If it does finally die, its been a pleasure posting on this site for nearly 30 years.
