Lately, the admins and mods have been noticing that certain Sig files (and avatars) are getting out of hand insofar as size. Members have also been complaining, and as a result we will be coming up with some specific guidelines in the future, but until then please be courteous to your fellow members and follow the below guidelines:
Sig Files:
Signiture images should be no more than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels high. wide signature files muck up the board layout on smaller monitor resolutions, and tall images create unnecessary scrolling. Ask yourself: will anyone actually CARE about what's in your 800X600 image? The answer is probably an unqualified NO.
The size of a sig file image should be no more than 20k.
Avatars:
No larger than 100x100 pixels. They will be automatically sized down by the board software, but will still have the horrendous download times associated with the larger image that they are.
Please try to keep avatar sizes (in kilobytes) under 20k.
Also
If you have either an avatar or sig file approaching the 20k max, please try to keep your other file under 8-10k. Note that my avatar is 17k, but my sig is more like 7-8k.
Finally, failure to comply with these guidelines will result in PM and/or on-board warnings. Continued violation will result in revocation of avatar/sig file privileges.
Please help us keep the boards enjoyable for everyone. Any questions, reply here instead of via PM so all can see the responses, much like an ongoing FAQ.
Eventually, when guidelines are locked down they will be incorporated in the board FAQ/Rules.
Thanks!
Richard
