I've been granted poll duties for this week, so let's see how it works out. I don't think I'll post trailers for all the movies this time, but I will post the opening for Mazinkaiser because it's metal as all get out.

Also, I'll be away from home this weekend, but I promise to watch the winner when I'm back home on Monday. Just so no one thinks I'm getting out of my own responsibility.

I trust youtube's content rules on this. They have a pretty solid content awareness system. Hell I got busted doing a livestream of some obscure 50s scifi film I thought was public domain.

"so tell me who is going to protect the protector?"

this movie is much better than the first ever better suites, and on a lower budget as well.

I still plan to watch this movie when I get home tomorrow. In the meantime, perhaps Klen would like to handle the next thread?

I'm watching this now.... the first half hour of this is really dragging

::EDIT:: an hour and change into this and there is still 45 minutes left... not sure i'll be making it to the end of this one.

It kind of feels like an American Kamen Rider... without a bike... and with more blood and throbbing nipple scenes.

The suits are good... but everything else is a bit tedious to me.

I'm a half hour into this movie and I'm about to fall asleep. Oh now there is a Rhino Zoanoid...

^ Get ready for another 40 minute lull

I think i appreciate this movie more after reading Bruticus' review, because coming in as a relative Guyver newbie, i had hard time getting engaged in the characters. I did like that they made the suit somewhat of a "curse". The fights and suits are both strong points in the film, but it seems like they had no budget left for set locations. The violence level is something you dont see often in the toku shows from Japan.

Clocking in at 2 hours i think this movie could have benefited from some cuts in the first half of the film

So my final assessment is cool fight scenes and spfx. However the soundfx for the zoanoids were awful and everything outside of the fights scenes screamed low budget 90s scifi movie. Also the theme song gets really repetitive after a while. I might have to checkout the first Guyver for a comparison.

The first Guyver movie is faster paced, and has better visuals and sound effects, but it's a worse movie in just about every other way. I'd still see it for completion's sake, but be sure to check your expectations.

I remember liking the first Guyver movie but also remembering that it was more promise than delivery. Well that and Mark Hamill turning into a cockroach. :)

Looking back at the imdb, the first movie had a decent cast for a straight to video flick.

Anyway, watched Guyver 2 last night. I liked how it promised a low-budget Batman premise at the beginning but that was completely swept aside once the credits rolled. Then there was a some bad acting and a whole lot of nothing for quite a stretch. I'm still a little confused on why they let our hero just waltz into the excavation camp and hang around. Anyway, it starts picking up steam towards the end with fights and monsters, some of which have some really cool design aesthetics.

My favorite moment in the movie is when the Guyver is throwing objects at a monster who mockingly slaps them aside until the Guyver throws a stick of dynamite which the monster, thinking its more trash, catches in his mouth.

The Guyver follows that up with a small laser blast And Ba-BOOM! Well, I laughed. :)

There's a sequence where the Guyver is interfacing with the spaceship that then provides him with background on the Guyver. Its a little confusing, and I have the impression that this was supposed to be the cool mythos-building part of the movie. I didn't quite get what all was going on, and the revelation later didn't help clear it up.

It could have been a lot worse overall.
