Originally I was going to make this a dinosaur themed poll but alas I changed my mind and decided to include some fantasy/scifi films including a few modern films. Enjoy!

I want Dinosaurus to win. I know that I do need to see The Last Dinosaur, and that Legends of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds trailer doesn't seem as fun as either of the two aforementioned movies. Reign of Fire and the Mist, while I haven't seen either, seem a bit too contemporary for what I'm into at the moment, although I'm surprised I have never heard of The Outlander. Now that trailer and premise seems pretty cool. Does it live up to the hype?

And I'm the guy who voted for Konga because the poll told me not to. I thought it'd be another one of those polls where you could change your vote as the poll goes along, but you're tricksy, DannyBeane!

I like Outlander a lot. But I really love the idea of monster movies that take place outside of contemporary times.

This movie is so delightfully corny with the T Rex, but especially with the caveman trying to dress up in women's clothing.

"I didn't know you were an anthropologist."
"Uhh, not a very good one, boss. I mean, I ain't been to church in years."

Just finished watching Dinosaurus! (Yes, exclamation point!). I started watching the youtube links last night, and tried to continue today, but the picture quality of it there is pretty bad. I found a Riff Trax version, which is much higher quality and funny to boot. The above quote from the movie kind of sums up the overall tone. Its pretty light hearted overall, and almost a comedy in some respects. I present exhibit A:

Dumpy! Don't you know those are molotov cocktails in that bag you're carrying!? I thought I misheard his name the first time, but this is like Star Wars Porkins' material as the movie seems to take delight in calling him Dumpy.

I wasn't quite prepared for the caveman, who actually seems to me to be the real hero of the flick. He's fun to watch and follows that light-hearted tone.

Yeah there's a lot of schtick, but its actually pretty well delivered. For a movie where the dinosaurs were the reason to watch, the caveman scenes substituted fine.

Now for the dinosaurs. Based on the trailer, that's the reason I wanted this movie to win. However, the trailer seems to have shown most of the dinosaur scenes. Its ok, and seems to go between crude stop motion and puppetry. I will credit them for some clever editing to make the most out of what little they have.

One thing I really did not like about this movie, and which annoyed me throughout, is the T-rex's monster roar. It has to be the most irritating monster roar I have ever heard!

But what do I know.....

I'm watching this movie right now and even with the crappy youtube quality it still holds up well to my childhood memories. I'm surprised at how much I can quote this movie.

My favorite character was TJ O'leary even though he only lasts until the dinosaurs wake up. As someone of Irish decent I get a chuckle at how blatantly racist his portrayal of a drunk Irishman was. It was a different time though.

Hacker is a pretty easy to hate villain with blackmailing his "girlfriend" bossing around Julio and just being a pain in the ass.

Bart Thompson as the main character was pretty stock and boring. I honestly thought they caveman was the better of the main heroes.

To this day I still imagine all Neanderthals as looking and acting the the cavemen in this movie. The actor did a phenomenal job for not really having a speaking role. Him and Julio were easily the most sympathetic characters.

Betty is boring. Strong female characters didn't exist back then but the actress is serviceable.

Dumpy and chuck are the trusty sidekicks. Of the two, Dumpy is my favorite just because of his name.

For a lowbudget movie I thought the dinosaurs were well done. They had a lot of personality compared to dinosaurs from other movies made around the same time. The Brontosaurus (the young paleontologist in me shudders at using that outdated term) befriends Julio and eventually becomes like a pet dog. *spoilers* His death was very sad for me as a kid. I always liked to imagine he survived in the quicksand and later wandered out.

I like this movie. It hits that sweet spot of cheesiness and fun and if this movie were released on blu ray I'd probably snap it up in a heart beat.
