Let's go back to the very beginning, a very good place to start.

This week's topic -- the first Godzilla movies that have yet to be done. So vote away!

And for the record, that's the original "Gojira". "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" won a poll already.

Ghidrah very recently won poll 64 and probably shouldn't be eligible for this poll

I voted Mothra, but i'd be just as happy for Astro Monster

Hopefully Mothra or Monster Zero win. I'm itching to watch one of those.

Yeh, I've seen Gojira and KotM possibly too many times... I just watched Ghidrah for a recent poll...and Raids is my least favorite G movie

Oops! I must've missed that somehow. Okay, just vote for the other four then.

I voted Raids Again. Because I love that movie, even though very few others do.
Also, thanks for getting back to basics, so to speak. A great point for me to jump back in on.

this (and then checking out the Gojira Blu-ray) might be the last time I watch a Godzilla film until maybe March or something next year. I know that watching Godzilla films as a build-up to the Legendary film doesn't make a whole ton of sense, but I'm gonna do it.

Gojira's the only I have on hand in dorm here, so it got my vote. And given that it's tied with the '82 Conan the Barbarian as one of my all-time favourite movies, I can't not vote for it.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before you all saw me hate on this movie... it's been a long time since the last time I tried to watch it. Maybe this will be the time I stay awake to see the ending?

I feel like this movie is easily one of the most underrated films in the Showa era. I think it’s an alright film, sort of in the middle of the larger Godzilla canon, but I think being right after the absolute best of the series makes it pale in comparison even more so than it might other wise.

Image
I love the family drama of the fishing business and its struggles amidst the return of Godzilla. I feel like the fact these people have nothing to do with being scientists or generals or political leaders is great. This is a kaiju film featuring everymen struggling to survive. Not only struggling to just survive the kaiju attacks but struggling to maintain their means of living.

Image
The footage of the Kaiju fights, a mistake, is actually one of the most visually interesting aspects of the film. There’s also the great scene of the blackout in Osaka just as Godzilla arrives. It’s pretty chilling and the subplot of prisoner’s escape is interesting as the movie truly tries to look at these minute aspects of a kaiju attack.

Image
Ultimately there’s a sacrifice to momentarily stave off Godzilla’s assault, Kobayashi’s suicide run lacks quite the gravity and drama of Serizawa’s but its still pretty affecting. While I quite admit this isn’t a top 10 film, it’s definitely in the middle batch of Godzilla movies and one of my favorites to watch during the winter months.

I finally made it to the end. I still think this is the most boring Godzilla film. If not for the hilariously bad American version's more humorous moments, I don't think I'd ever want to watch this movie again. I think I'll come back in another decade or so. Too many better Godzilla movies to watch.
