Weekly Kaiju Movie Thread #64: Terror from the Stars

Woo-hoo! 64 is one of my favorite numbers (along with 4, 8, 16, and 32)! Lucky score for me!

Since a handful of these are movies I've really been meaning to watch lately, and those all happened to be space-related, I figured that'd be a good over-arching theme. So, let's choose a horror from the outer reaches, shall we?

20 Million Miles to Earth - Last time we got a lesser Harryhausen entry. Maybe we owe it to him to watch something a little more fondly regarded.

Ghidrah: The Three-Headed Monster - Enter the ultimate space dragon. Three heads, two tails, and a voice like the ringing of bells.

The X from Outer Space - Ah, the late 60s, when kaiju designs started inching further into the realm of insanity...

Gamera: Super Monster - Had they done the same basic story, but shot new effects scenes, this might well be remembered as the ultimate Showa Gamera movie. Instead, it's jsut the supreme example of the stock-footage-happy aspect of the series.

Gamera - Attack of the Legion - Who doesn't dig this movie? Is there anyone?

Gamera 2 is one of my favorite movies, not just kaiju movies. It easily got my vote. I am ALWAYS in a mood to watch it.

I've given my votes to 20 Million Miles from Earth and to The X from Outer Space. I've only seen the latter once, but I don't know how I could ever get sick of it. It's fun stuff, and that soundtrack is the best.

You vote on which film you would like to watch. Then, if you have access to the film, you are encouraged (but not obligated obviously) to watch the winning film at your leisure and post any comments. I'm guilty myself of being lax on that last part occasionally . I think watching the film as a group would be fun, but I dont have the technical know-how to do so. Some people over at TK had an "end of the world" party viewing of "The Last War" and "PON" back on 12/21/12 through dailymotion. I was able to join via a password, but not sure how someone would set something like that up.

I went with Ghidrah and Legion. Ghidrah because its in my top 5 Godzilla movies and Legion because I just bought the Gamera trilogy Blu Ray.

Anyway, I wanted to pick 20 Million Miles as one of mine, but I don't have access to it (yet; I'm planning on buying that Harryhausen set on DVD), nor do I The X From Outer Space. Bummer.

So I went with my next two faves: Ghidrah, and the coolest Gamera movie ever: Super Monster !!! (c'mon, did you guys think I was going to pick anything else?)

Although Ghidrah is the only thing I feel like watching.

I'm down for trying to schedule simultaneous viewings in the future for movies that all of us likely own (like Godzilla/Gamera movies). The only thing we'd have to do is figure out where we'll be able to get us all in a chat room.

I'll watch Ghidrah and I'll even open up a discussion about Ghidrah. I love Ghidrah but I can't watch Guilala. Its just one of those movies that put me to sleep in 5 minutes. I think after multiple attempts I have successfully watched The X from Outer Space exactly 1 time to completion.

I am about to fire up the Toho Master Collection DVD of Ghidorah. Is there a big difference between the US and Japanese versions?
