The Crawling Eye was worth a watch. It's not until the very end until you see the monster(s), and the story actually holds a pretty decent amount of tension up until you arrive at that point. What's up in the mountains? What's in that moving mist? Why are people disappearing while climbing the mountain with their bodies never found, or if they are, their heads are torn off? Why is the telepathic chick drawn to this place?
Not that the story falls apart at the monster reveal as much as it jumps into the stereotypical 50's monster movie formula. Its kind of unfortunate for this particular flick because the movie immediately loses the psychological edge it had prior to that. I really liked the human puppet that the monsters used. It's probably one of the best scenes in the movie with the human trying to act normal but being extremely clumsy at doing everyday things as if the puppeteer isn't accustomed to the strings.
"Look at his head."
"No blood."
Did I mention the puppets are flash frozen with not too much of a half life?
In a way, I was also reminded of The Giant Claw(one of our previous poll winners) while watching. Both are similar in their build ups with the plot and characters seeming to be pretty competent for a 50's monster movie, but only the Crawling Eye has a monster reveal that doesn't make you want to burst out laughing. I thought the Crawling Eye monster itself was pretty neat, especially for the time, and the scene of it at the front door with its eye looking back and forth(which MekaGojira3k has above) is one of the better monster shots. Its a shame its tentacles don't seem to be much of a menace nor do the monsters to conventional weapons.
"It's a real stink-burger of a film this week, Joel!"
The world's only electric bagpipe! "Whole lotta love!" <insert dying cat chorus here>
The MST3K version is from very early in the show's run. No Tv's Frank.

The best bit had to be when the telepathic girls were doing one of their shows and Joel was giving them hints.
