Greetings,

In memory to the late great Mr. Ray Harryhausen it my pleasure and honor to provide the first poll in our second year dedicated to him. Several of his films have already won past polls and thus will not be on this poll:

Mighty Joe Young (#9)
Mysterious Island (#24)
Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (#33)
Valley of Gwangi (#40)
One Million Years B.C. (#46)

I thought of many different ways of selecting films. Mixes of Sci-Fi & Fantasy. But I tried to get a film from each "period" of his illustrious career. In my mind they are all winners  . But have fun and lets enjoy a film in his behalf this week

I really love all of these movies, so this one I'm gonna have to soak in and decide on during the week.

Well, the only one I haven't seen is Golden Voyage of Sinbad, but I don't have access to it. So it'll be between Seventh Voyage and Jason and the Argonauts (kick-ass movie)

For me frowing up "7th Voyage" and "Argonaurts" always seemed to air together on Saturday/Sunday nights on the same station so they will always be tied together in my mind although they are very different films thematically. 7th voyage IS my personal favorite, but critically I'm pretty sure Jason & The Argonauts is the film most recognize as his greatest achievement (of which there were several). After all it's what Tom Hanks referrenced when Harryhausen got his award back in 1992.

Interestingly, although its not a Harryhausen film I didn't see Jack the Giant Killer until it was on Netflix a couple of years back, which has virtually the same human cast as 7th Voyage.

Also just a fun fact- for the longest time I thought Sinbad & The Eye of the Tiger was some ungodly 3+ hour long movie. The reason was the first time I ver saw it is was on my local PBS station (of all things!). I think it was some sort of TV premier since it was only a couple of years after the film was released theatrically. They kept taking "pledge breaks" which is what made the movie seem so long  .
