Finally got to watch this.
Unfortunately my opinion hasn't changed much. The movie is still kind of so-so for me. I really appreciate the score though. I guess the straight up scifi films never really appeal to me as much.
But DEM SETS!
And DEM MINIATURES!
Magma isn't one of the more impressive things in the film, but I like monsters so he's appearance is a welcome one.
There's something so Japanese scifi about this concept. Not only the whole JUST MOVE THE PLANET THING, but the LET'S SPEND MOST OF THE FILM SHOWING YOU HOW WE DID IT. It's an obsession (maybe I'm just seeing things) with the preparation and less with the act itself in a lot of these films.
One of my initial qualms with the film was that the ending was abrupt, but I didn't feel that way with it at all this time round. Gorath is an okay film but it's a spectacular display of Eiji Tsuburaya's talents.
