I don't know. I try to look at it from a neutral perspective. It would've made more sense to get more notice in advance. More time to actively save up/plan for the trip as others have said.

But as another said before, who's to say you can't go next year? Or the year after? Either through another G-Tour or a self-organized trip? I think a lot of people look at Japan as an impossible point of travel, but compared to a lot of locales it's actually not bad at all. As another said, hotels are pretty cheap. Yeah, if you go completely by yourself you'll be lost. But if you go with a friend you have someone to communicate with and whatnot.

Seeing a ClubTokyo posse go to Japan through somewhat of an organized trip sometime in the future would be pretty dope.

If people wish to talk to JD about this and that, probably just best to email him. Word won't reach him just by on the forums. At least, judging from responses I see in the G-Fest topic.

The US military is evacuating non-essential personnel from the Tokyo area, including Tom & Diane of Clawmark Toys — it's INSANE to go to that area of Japan now for a vacation. To help with the relief effort, yes, but to indulge in Godzilla-centric geekery, I don't think it's wise or safe — especially with the N-Plant crisis not being fully resolved yet.

As Norman said, you can plan your own trip — I first went to Japan in the mid-1980s, on my own, and got along just fine (and I was barely out of my teenage years at the time). Here's a good English resource to start, for the beginner, or the seasoned Japan traveler:
