Gamera, the hero, hurts people. Might sound stupid, ok I know it does but Gamera is a character created with a specific purpose of giving children a hero that is on their side, someone dependable that's just there for them. And while Gamera does do heroic actions in Gamera 3, I respect Noriaki Yuasa's vision enough to know that his Gamera wouldnt ever do anything like that. (Yes, I know in the original film Gamera killed tons of people...but that's before they really created the character of Gamera)
It's kind of like having Superman suddenly become a dark, Punisher like hero.
I still like Gamera 3, I've just soured over it the past few years though it is probably the best technically advanced kaiju film ever filmed. That film no longer really screams Gamera to me...for some people that's a good thing that Gamera acts more like Godzilla, for me...I miss the old Gamera when I watch the film now.
