Group,
I just flew in from Chicago last night, and (no, I'm not going to say, "Boy are my arms tired") I'm still zonked -- not from the hours of travel (Chicago to San Francisco via Phoenix), but when I was picked up at SFO, Rachel said, "Deathguild?" So, off we went to drink. It must have been the pressurization, because the first drink when straight to my head.
G-Fest was a great time. Meet some really cool folks. I got a lot of love. Singed a lot of books (we sold out on Saturday morning!). Drank "Godzilla Blood" (thanks, Jay). Ate Baked Clams and real Chicago-style pizza (thanks to Danny & Joey). Had a lot of laughs. Got ripped on by Don Frye (he made me laugh for hours during the autograph sessions). Had a wonderful private dinner with Haruo Nakajima (thanks Tom & Diane). But, I only got to go into Chicago, proper, the day I flew out.
You know something funny? When you travel a long way, you expect to get to see people and do things, or get in contact with some folks friends tell you to give a call, but there are just not enough hours in the day -- I was in Chicago five days (the first was just me crashing out after checking into my hotel, stumbling down to the bar and having Danny Tokarz buy drinks). It was still not enough time.
Between my sessions at the event, pressing flesh and signing my books, I hardly left the hotel. Now, while I feel bad that I didn't get to meet -- or even call -- some Chicagoans I had promised to catch up with, I still had a great time because of some local knuckle-heads, namely Danny and Joey. Even though we've communicated in the past (for years), we had never met in person before, but it was like we had always known each other. Crazy (interestingly enough, we even have mutual friends in the music scene).
Well, maybe I'll write more later... I'm still a bit lagged. But, the next time I go to Chicago, I'll get in earlier, and make it up to all of those of you I didn't get to see. Now, I need coffee and food.
Thanks to Brett, Armand, J.D., Robert and anyone else I may have left out (congrats to the staff and Andy and Jeff, in particular). I hope that I will be invited back to G-Fest next year!
Cheers,
August
