Oh crap...just realized, the Wyndham is where Fango Weekend of Horrors was this year!
YES, the parking is free for everybody going. But the problem is that it is a little limited. I drove around for about 1/2 hour in the parking lot trying to find a spot left open, but it never happened so I had to park in a strange location. I didn't get a ticket, but if the place wanted to be jerks they could have been quite easily. You might be tempted to take advantage of the insane amount of parking right by the place, which is the Target and the All-State Arena, but don't do it. They will tow your car without a second thought. But the parking might not be as large a problem as I would expect G-Fest would not have the same insane number of people turnout as Fango...but ya never know.
The hotel, for the convention thing, is pretty nice. I liked it there quite a bit. The bar is very nice and the prices were not horrible. If you could stomach the Crowne prices, this one will be better.
I didn't take in the rooms or anything as I only went for the afternoon. There is plenty of food in the area though and it is easier to get to than the Crowne. IMO this one will be a cross of the Crowne and the Radisson.
I believe the reason the Fest left the last Wyndham (the Itasca location) was that it just was not very good location for the convention. If you remember it was a pain getting from one room to another, with things being spread over a few floors and none of the rooms being close to each other. Plus there was no dining close, or within walking distance. It was a decent filler, but would have been a poor choice to keep the fest at, IMO.
edit: Hot dang...that avatar has gotten HUGE! I think I will need to resize that thing. Sorry.
The pictures on the Wyndham site, btw, are a little typical of promotional things. The picture of the bar (which is the one with the red comfy looking seats) looks much larger than it really is. That area is pretty darn tooting small. But there are a couple of bars there, and that one is the one right off the lobby and more of a "stop off" point than an actual "sit down and spend the evening there" type of bar. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of spending a weekend at this hotel.
