Each time I watch this movie, I appreciate it more. The storytelling is pretty tight with everything introduced being relevant to the plot, and more importantly, a good amount of monster action which is made better by the human action outside of it being interesting for the lead up to that monster action. Not only that, the humans are likeable! From the girl linked to Gamera to the bumbling scaredy-cat detective teaming up with the ornithologist.
The Mill creek set is great, and one of the better releases we as kaiju fans have had over the last year or so. Heavily recommended. I was pretty late to the Heisei Gamera series, and had no idea the series exist for the longest time. I think this forum is what encouraged me to seek all of these movies out, for which I'm very grateful. When I think Heisei now, I do think Gamera more than Godzilla.
On this particular viewing, I was eyeballing the miniature work, which I really like. I watched it with the dub, which isn't *that* bad. Speaking of eyeballs, I guess the one negative I continue to note each time I watch this is that the eyeball motion on the gyaos is a little overdone.
