King Kong 33 on the big screen in Detroit...

Postby MouthForWar » Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:45 am

Hey, for anyone in the Detroit area, the WONDERFUL Redford Theatre will be playing the original black and white classic on July 20th at 8:00 PM, July 21st at 2:00 PM, and that night at 8:00 PM. Tickets will be only $4.00, so come on down.

If you don't know about the Redford, its been around for ages and they play a classic film each week, sometimes accompanied by a cartoon in the beginning. Every cent from ticket sales and snacks go into the constant restoration of the theatre, and all the workers there are volunteers. The Redford Theatre is truly dedicated to the art of cinema. I hate to sound too much like a commercial, but I just love this damn place. They also play a lot of silent films with a live organ player doing the soundtrack. I saw Jaws, Frankenstein, The Thing from Another World, A Hard Day's Night, and many others there and its been a fantastic experience every time. Its always been a dream of mine to experience the original Kong on the big screen and now I can... I should try to go to all 3 showings.

has more info and info on their other screenings coming up.

KING KONG is absolutely wonderful on the big screen. Anyone here who lives near Detroit should not miss these screenings.

That is really great! I saw it a while back with some friends, one being an animator on Robot Chicken and another being an old school stop motionist who now works in CGI at Tippett and Disney, etc. Even for hardened vets, they come out sort of star struck from seeing the real King. The new restored DVD is nice, but there's so much texture and detail in that movie that the only way you might catch it all is on the big screen.

I hope they have a good print to show!

Here's a nice photo of some of the cast and crew from that great film.

Call me crazy but I always thought Ruth Rose (she wrote the script/screenplay) was a cutey (in a motherly sort of way  ).
That's her standing behind Ernest Shoedshack.
