It was officially revealed a few weeks ago, but since there wasn't a thread for it yet I figured I'd go head and make one. So yeah, this is the PC/console Monsterverse game we'd heard was in the works for a while now.

I was already keeping my expectations low when I first heard there was a console/PC Monsterverse game being made, and now having seen the trailer I definitely think that was the right call. I'm not averse to the idea of a game set in a world of giant monsters where you play as a human, but this definitely *looks* like the first "big" game from a studio that's apparently only made mobile stuff up until now.

Also with that title I'm gonna guess they couldn't get the rights to use Godzilla in this, so I imagine he's not going to be showing up. Still, having the debut of a "new" monster with Abaddon, and by the looks of it also having Tiamat return there too, is neat. So this'll be something I'll be keeping an eye on, if not really getting myself hyped up for.

Yeah, this is... something.

What happened to that level of synergy that existed between video game companies and movie studios back in the GameCube, Xbox and PlayStation 2 days? It used to be a given that any big Hollywood tentpole would have a video game tie-in, with a narrative and aesthetics that were similar to the movie, and always released around the same time. Now it's 2024, the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong was released months ago, and there's just now about to be a video game that takes place in the aftermath of that 2021 film, featuring Kong but not Godzilla, and produced by a small-time independent company. What happened?

I'm ok with there not being as many crappy cash-in games these days as their used to be, as it felt like any time a game was released around the same sort of time as a movie it was almost always bad. But the fact that Godzilla is arguably more popular right now than he has been in *years*, and Toho still doesn't seem like they even *care* about getting new games out there anymore, really sucks. I wonder if it's another case of that Battle Line mobile game just making them so much profit that they really don't give a damn about giving anyone the go ahead to make a *real* Godzilla game?
