If you want to see a good indication of where games are heading the look up the trailer for The Phatom Pain that was shown off at the VGAs on Spike that was clearly Next Gen and to me it's on par with what's been on PCs for three years now ie DX 11 effects.

Also the screens of GTA V released in late December are defiently not from current gen consoles so they're either from a planned PC port or a next gen reissue. That being said I'll hold off on GTA V until it ineveitably gets ported to the Xbox 720/PS4.

[img]The first reports about the Xbox 720 (or whatever Microsoft’s next-gen console ends up being called) began appearing as early as 2006, even prompting Microsoft EMEA (European, Middle East, and Africa) vice president Chris Lewis to plead for “a chance to catch a breathâ€

I just don't understand the reason for an upgrade beyond greed on behalf of both companies. Like Kain has said, we haven't even used the PS3 to its potential yet.

Plus, I can't imagine paying more for games...or having graphics really spice up my game playing experience that much more.

In case you haven't heard the news the next Xbox will be revealed on May 21st of this month.

The thing is a mixed bag for me with all the negative rumors surrounding it. Though there are a few cool rumors such as the ability for publishers to add achievements on the fly. For example say a person isn't using a weapon to much or playing on a certain map the developer could add an achievement for that level.

The big nasty rumor that I was worried about sounds like it got debunked recently and that's always online in order to use the system.

If they confirm BC right out of the box and the price is decent then I'll probably pick up the new system right at launch or close to it.

Yeah, I watched the conference and was not impressed. TV talk, sports, sports fantasy (whatever that is), sports games, Halo tv series, sports on tv, a game that looked interesting for the whole 30 seconds we saw it, and then Call of Duty. Whoopiefriggado. The machine looks like a VCR.

They did say you would not have to be plugged online to play singler player games, but everything else works from the internet. It will play used games, but because the games are going to be connected with your profile and require installs to play, you will have to pay an install fee for games that have been previously used. The controller requires batteries again. And not backwards compatibility (which we all knew). Oh yeah, and three operating systems so that the console can crash three times over.

I can just see it now:

"Murder rates have dropped after a significant amount of murders were recorded killing their spouses through their Kinect. Microsoft refused to comment on this matter."

BTW, check out Annoyed Gamer's thoughts on the One. As I expected, he was livid.
