WELL..I got an X-Box 360 for Christmas from my parents! I didn't even ask for one, so it was quite the nice suprise. It came bundled with Marvel Ultimate Alliance and some car game, but I managed to pick up Dead Rising, F.E.A.R. and Star Trek as well. I admit I was kind of scared to even set it up, with all the negative things I've read about the "red ring of death" going on. Do 33% of all owners really face this??? The day after Christmas I read this huge article on gamepro.com about it and it really was a buzz kill. How sad is that!? Anyways, I've only been able to play it for a few hours so far, but I'm loving it!

Well, from what I've read, it's not really like that - BUT, the scary thing is, there's a 55% chance, according to an article I found in the New York Times about Holiday Tech, that EVERY Xbox 360 user with a unit made before July 2007 will experience the red ring of death during their lifetime.

On G4TV's Attack of the Show, they were talking about just that - that the 360, when compared with the Wii and the PS3, was a high-risk system. They had a tech reviewer(I forget his name, but he reviewed for a web site), Sessler, and a consumer products guy and they went back and forth on the issue - like a political debate.

Sessler, the X-Play host, pointed out thst half of the red rings came about because of simple hardware problems like drive failures or faulty plugs, while the Consumer guy kept saying that all they know is that Microsoft knew these systems were defective but sold them anyway....the reviewwr pointed out that 25% of those ssytems out there HAVEN'T had any problem, and that those that do are within that small percentage that MS missed during the pre-release trial run. They also can't account for all those units that were misused or mistreated before or after their delivery to retailers, and that they could account for most of the problem.

When I experienced the red ring of death, I hadn't moved the console, but was experiencing sudden pauses in my games with no response from my controllers, or my console, way before then.

Glad you're not experiencing any of that, 'cause it's REALLY annoying.

Well, they spent I think a billion or more dollars on just the warranty plan for a reason. But I am not surprised about what you heard on G4. Just from day 1 it has been issue after issue with this system it seems. It sucks, but MS really wanted that head start right before the '05 holidays.

By the way Ultra, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is quite fun when playing with friends.

The whole Blu-Ray/HD-DVD thing is pointless there should have been one format from the get go.
