Lowering the hard drive space won't... as much as the price. Come on Kain, you work in retail. They would be making it more affordable to everyone. Hell, people went out and bought the 360 eventhough it was $400 and some called that expensive, but now it's like "well, that's not so bad." If anything it's a sign that Sony KNOWS what it is doing.
Dropping the price to $500 quickly sold the 60 gb units and now they're all gone and sales have slowed down again with just this 80 gb model. Kain, they're not just going to sit on their asses and hope and pray people start taking more of a liking to the $600 price tag because it looks like the system will continue to sale at a snails pace. That's exactly why they would do it, to sell more systems plain and simple. They just sold off some unneeded factories for tons of money I believe, so it's not really going to hurt them by releasing another model.
In my opinion they should have done this to begin with, but at the same time I would find it hard to find a justification in buying the 80 gb model when you can just get the 40 and then buy your own hard drive for the difference it would cost to get the 80 gb model. 40 gb (would) = more appealing to the common consumer. 80 gb model = for the consumer with more money to spend.
