BEWARE: MS Does Auto Renewals on Live Accounts

Postby Brick Side » Sat Oct 18, 2008 2:50 pm

I read this story yesterday about how this guy had been charged over $150 to MS with Live subscriptions. He had gotten the service, intended to only use it for the time he had paid for, and be done with it. Apparently MS never sent him an email letting him know that they were going to automatically renew his Live account (which was probably a fluke). Curious, I checked my email account that Live is registered to and thankfully they did send me a notice that they were doing an automatic renewal next week.

So basically if you paid for Live via the dashboard like myself and this other guy did with our credit/debit cards, then be aware that MS WILL do an automatic renewal of your account after it expires. It's kinda crappy to do, can't really blame them for doing it, but in case you didn't know then here you go.

According to the official website, to stop the automatic renewal you would need to call at 1-800-4MYXBOX. In my case, I won't be renewing so I will have to call and cancel my account.

Yep I use Prepaid cards too. For $50 you actually get 13 months with a prepaid card.

Also if you shop online you can get the cards for cheap.

MGSIV might be possible but they'd have to split it up into multiple discs and possible cut MGO out.

Dead Space is really great I'm loving it each time I play it. I see a lot of references to various alien horror movies.

I hate those pancake things I'll call them that as they're flat and the baby monsters too ugh but they're really easy to take down.

Damn, can no one use the MGS4 thread anymore

I've said it before and i'll say it again: I don't think it would work. Be it multiple game discs, all the product placement from Apple (who is pissed at MS. I can't remember the exact reason, but it did deal with dropping the iPod in favor of their Zune), or all the PS3-specific elements of the game. I believe Kojima when he says the game is optimized for the PS3. If it were to show up on the 360 I would think it would have to be heavily altered. But I will again say that this was a rumor from 2 weeks ago that was blown out of proportion because of a mis-quote from the original source where. I think the Metal Gear franchise will go multi-platform someday, but I don't think you'll see it on a MS console until the Xbox 720 and PS4 are out (and going by the time-frame of development for the games, MGS5 might not be ready until then). Of course that's just my 2 cents based on all we have heard.

By the way, the Gears of War 2 ending has ALREADY shown up on the internet. I saw it, plus the final boss battle, and... well, I didn't think the ending of the first was anything special, but the boss battle was fun. The video for the new game didn't show anything special. The boss battle didn't seem like a boss battle, and the ending was incredibly inconclusive. But it is going to be a trilogy so I guess that's to be expected. Plus this is Epic and they have never exactly been good at story telling. Anyway, I will probably give the game a try in a few months after it has been out and i've played through all the other game I want to play this holiday season. Damn, there's so many...

it would be far too costly to do it. For one thing, they'd have to rerecord 80% of the dialog (like the BR comment from Otacon), plus it would have to be ported onto multiple discs, downgraded graphically, plus, you would have to have the 60GB+ HDD to be able to play it, as I doubt any 20GB could hold it.
