The japanese release was last week.
You could easily secure a copy online somewhere, especially since it's basically the same exact movie we'll be getting.
My thoughts on it:
I love the way CAPCOM went with it. Yeah, I see how it could definitely be used to jumpstart another saga AND pilot in a new videogame around the storyline.
Each character was well-thought out, and dispite some hiccups in both the voice department and storyline, the movie is actually entertaining. I actually felt satisfied once the credits rolled.
I didn't think Angela was that depressing - she was essentially Claire during RE2. Given the circumstances and her coincidential involvement, her behavior was actually understandible.
Curtis Miller as "the new Birkin" was a sweet ode to RE2......which brings me to the following question:
Why doesn't CAPCOM just give in and give us that reimagining of RE2? With Degeneration, they show that they're on the right path with filmmaking - so why not invest in the franchise on that front?
There's plenty of material to cover in the series and maybe, through movies, they can actually get to tell them.
Now, how does it stack up to another CG Videogame adaptation, "Final Fantasy:Advent Children"?
Personally, I feel that , for its' genre, Degeneration packed a better punch than Advent Children. Overall, Degeneration does a better job at making good use of past storylines and established characters. Advent Children left bigger plot holes than the ones it was meant to fill - Degeneration doesn't necessarily fill in any, nor does it make new ones - it just builds upon the already-existant storyline.
Advent Children, however, is the prettier of the two. Quality over Content, I guess.
The CG in Degeneration was sub-par - I'm guessing this was because SONY saw the movie as an experiment and didn't want to fully fund it yet, OR they felt that they didn't need that extra glossy coat of paint n' polish that Advent Children went through.
Bottom line?
Degeneration is easier to digest than Advent Children. It caters to both fans and non-fans alike, and never takes itself too seriously - instead, like it's already been pointed out, it plays out like it's meant to - just like the games.
