See, when they stereotyped ALL hispanic people in RE4, sure, I cringed, but I admitted that it was fun....even if I'm sorta blowin' up my own people.....and they practically deserve it if you think about it - tryin; to rip my guts out and everything..
Last night, I overheard a conversation on this from a couple of folks - they were african-american BTW, and in the minority of people who even pay attention to the RE franchise, but they sorta reminded me why this world is SO F#CKED UP:
They were talking about how in RE, you never ONCE see a black person as the main character - they have a white guy, a bunch of white girls, and a hispanic(
brasil's not exactly a latin nation, and that's where Carlos is from) but not ONE black person. Well, they haven't played RE:Outbreak, where's plenty of diverse ethnicities coming together to battle the forces of the undead for the greater good of humanity(
and their own hides).
ANyway, the guy behind the counter, also black, says that videogames are downright racist anyway, since they all stereotype - look at San Andreas - the lead guy's a black man and he's an ex-con. A customer, a white customer, asked about RE5 and guess what? They jumped on him. Though he had a great come-back and conversation-ender:
"Did you guys even play those games?" Their response: "
Naw, man. We jus' don' like game where black people gettin' killed thats' all.",
"Them Resident Evil games is whack man. killin' zombies n' s#!t. I don't play 'em.",
"Naw, I mostly play the football games and the basketball games. I don't like action games, man. Too hard." Next, the priceless one, the guy from behind the counter: "
I play most games. I played Resident Evil 2 and 4, Outbreak, and Dead Aim. I play 'em 'cuz their good games. Doesn't mean I like 'em. I actually hate 'em. I like sports games. My boys play sports games, so I play wit 'em on LIVE. Halo and those games are sorry."
By now, I'm pissed. So I ask 'em: "Then why be angry at a game you're not even gonna try?" Answer? "
'Cause it's black people and not spanish people gettin' killed. They bein' racist an' all dat. Not like you care anyway, white boy." They said this with a smile. Needless to say, that Gamestop just lost a customer. Sad too, 'cause that's where I go to most of the time, and I have friends who work there.
When "Maximum Overdose", "Just Cause", and other games stereotyping hispanics came out, did anyone complain? I didn't. Heck, I like 'em, ESPECIALLY Max. Overdose/Chili Con Carnage. When in RE 4, I discovered that the game programmers programmed 45% of the ganados' random spewings to be curse words, did I feel shocked or shamed? no. It didn't matter. In the game, I wouldn't even give them a chance to use it anyway

.
The racism comes in the fact that they like violence towards other people BUT themselves, and in their own way. "Resident Evil Outbreak sholda been in da hood." If ya didn't notice, File 2 HAS "the hood" - it's just overrun by zombies, who were also people and at one point, were also colored.
It's just messed up how this issue has to come up now.
