Well, after playing through what I assume is a good chunk of the Shivering Isles expansion, here are some thoughts: It's definitely different. A lot of the things the people of the island say may you think wtf at first until you realize why the island is the way it is. But basically, it's all more of the same which isn't bad; except there's lots of choosing with what you want to do. Caves on the island are different than the ones in the main game, but dungeons basically look the same except for statues and wall decorations here and there. The new creatures are more difficult to kill as well as at level 29 I had never really come close to dying in the main game but i've been a couple of hits away from being killed in the expansion on quite a few occasions. Lots of new weapons too (i.e. incarnations of swords, bows and all that), and one is especially interesting. It's really two swords in one, but both use different magic based on the time of the day. Also what's good about it is after killing a certain number of enemies the number of times you can use it before the magic is up is restored to full. Basically, you don't ever need to get it charged.
Well, it's a fun expansion (I'd say it is worth the $30) as everything on the outside of the island looks different but there's not much difference when you go into dungeons, but again the caves look different. One thing i've really realized, and is bugging me, is that you really do spend a lot of time under ground. Now that i'm playing this game again after a few months, I do realize that one point now and it does bother me. Since this is suppose to be an adventure RPG in the vein of a Zelda, I would like more variety in the 5th installment of the series. The outside is fine, but once you're inside a lot of places just look the same. Even adding something like towers as dungeons int he game (other than in the oblivion realm anyway) would spice things up a bit i'd imagine. Or maybe even a dungeon you have to get into by going under water. Something like that. It's a great series and a great game still to this day, but I hope next time they kinda draw on the Zelda series a bit more in terms of environment.
