Godzilla is coming to Gigabash!

I'm sure a few people here (of the few that are still hanging around, anyway ) have picked up Gigabash, the new monster fighting game that's clearly inspired by classics like Destroy All Monster Melee and War of the Monsters? Well it looks like Godzilla will soon be joining the fight!

Not quite a new Godzilla video game announcement, but it's better than a [i]mobile[/i] game announcement, that's for sure!

I have not heard of GigaBash before so thank you for bringing this to my attention. I just looked it up and I see that it's available on the PS4 so I'll check it out at some point for sure. It looks like it's a downloadable game, not on a disc.

Yeah I don't think it was released physically in any region. But yeah, it's basically a 1-4 player monster brawler in the vein of the old Godzilla Pipeworks games and War of the Monsters. I got it on release (even though it was a tad more expensive than I would have liked and expected) and early multiplayer teething issues aside, it's a ton of fun. Loads of personality and polish, with some great monsters and levels. Definitely recommended if you ever used to play any of those aforementioned games back in the day, especially if you've got friends to play it with either online or off.

Apparently Godzilla isn't the only Toho monster coming to the game either, though at the moment the devs are staying silent about how many more monsters are going to be making an appearance and who they might be. But either way I'm looking forward to it!

My game console in the early 2000s was Nintendo GameCube, so I never played War of the Monsters on the PlayStation 2 but I did play the hell out of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. An old-fashioned, button-mashing fighting game in that style sounds awesome, especially with Godzilla and possibly more Toho monsters included in the roster. I'll try to get GigaBash on the PS4 by the end of this year.

There have also been a lot of hints that Gigan is going to be the first extra Toho monster to be announced, and that he'll be officially revealed fairly soon.

Indeed Gigan is looking to be one of the other monsters, along with potentially Kiryu, judging by these latest teasers:

Apparently judging by the looks of the Steam page all four monsters are going to be available as a pack. So given that December 7th is about two weeks away now, I'd imagine we'll get one more teaser for the final monster next week followed by confirmation and gameplay around release time.

Nice! If the fourth character ends up being King Ghidorah then this game will have the Half-Century War #5 roster!

Yeah I've got to imagine the last one is going to be King Ghidorah. He's too popular for them to leave him out.

Honestly, when Gigan first started to be heavily hinted as one of the monsters, I thought they might end up going full "Godzilla vs Gigan" and giving us the line-up from that film! And if Ghidorah does indeed end up being the last one, we'll at least have three quarters of the roster from there being in it.

I just saw the game is also 25% off on the Playstation store from now until December 21st, so it'd be an even better idea to get it within the next few weeks than it was already!

The last monster teaser is out, and after initially thinking it confirmed Ghidorah, that wing silhouette there at the end, as well as the camera angle they chose, make me think Destoroyah is actually going to be the final monster instead!

The DLC ended up releasing a little earlier than expected, as it's available to buy right now!

As expected, Heisei Godzilla, Showa Gigan, Kiryu and Destoroyah are indeed the full roster, all available to buy in one pack that costs £8 over here! That's a lot cheaper than I was expecting!

And damn (or DAMM ) do they all look fun!

So many iconic movie moves! I can't wait to jump in and start playing with these guys later! And fingers crossed this isn't the last time they add some Toho monsters to the game!

Not a gamer, but as a fan I must say I was delighted by that little video. Makes it look like an update of those '00s Godzilla fighters everyone loves.

It really is the closest thing to those old Pipeworks games we've had in years. Some of the monsters even have some of the same moves they had in those games, like Gigan's "air teleport." They really packed in a ton of nods not just to the films but also other things like that.

I played for a good few hours with them all last night, and they're all a lot of fun. MechaGodzilla really is pretty busted though. Spamming his square button attack just stun locks enemies into losing half their health bar with no real consequences. But other than that, they're all super fun to play!

There have been hints that we might even end up getting more Toho monsters at some point possibly next year, and if these four are any indication as to how fun they could be then I am totally down for that!

I did finally download GigaBash along with the Godzilla DLC pack. This game is a ton of fun! I'm still very much a n00b and I haven't played with every character yet but I like the smoothness of the combat mechanics.

Oh yeah, I still pretty much have to remind myself of the controls and how to play every time I play it! But yeah, it's one of those "simple but seems like it has a lot of depth" kinda games. I'm sure there are people out there who can do some crazy wall bounce combos, but for now I'm just happy if I can feel marginally competent at it while also just enjoying the giant monster fun!

They're announced another four teasers and confirmed four characters will be released in one pack, same as with Godzilla, so this is great news! Truly 2023 has been the perfect year for me to finally start getting in to Ultraman!

Based on the retro OG series opening style of the teaser, I'm hoping we get the original Ultraman and Ultraseven as characters, as well as a couple of classic villains maybe, like Baltan and maybe Zetton. Either way, I'm super hyped about this!

Will this make GigaBash the first fighting video game to include Godzilla and Ultraman together as officially licensed playable characters? I know that Godzilla, Ultraman and other characters were featured in that City Shrouded In Shadow survival game a few years ago but that wasn't a fighting game and they weren't playable characters. I don't know if this has happened before in any Japanese games but I think GigaBash is the first to make Godzilla vs. Ultraman happen in the West.

Yeah I think this is the first "proper" game they've appeared in as playable characters that can actually fight each other. Weirdly though there was a notice saying this Ultraman pack won't be available in Japan (or China) of all places! I wonder what sort of weird rights situation exists that Ultraman and Godzilla aren't going to be able to actually fight each other in the land of their creation?

As great as it would be to see UltraSeven, I'm hoping that this Ultraman DLC pack will include three monsters from the original series and then a later DLC pack can be devoted to UltraSeven and three of his opponents.

Alongside Ultraman, I'd like to see Alien Baltan, Red King and Gomora, or just any characters from the original series that missed out on appearing in Shin Ultraman. For a hypothetical UltraSeven DLC pack, I reckon it would include Eleking, Alien Metron and King Joe.

Yeah I think it'd be great to have an Ultraseven-exclusive DLC pack. And that'd definitely be the same line-up I'd want and expect for it too.

It's looking like this probably will be an OG Ultraman-exclusive line-up then, which is cool. And kinda increases the possibility of an Ultraseven pack actually happening at some point! Though given how niche the game is, and the talk about the success of this pack likely determining whether or not they do any future DLC, part of me definitely worries that this one might not end up being successful enough for them to be able to justify more; especially since they're going to be missing out on all those Japan and China sales.

I must admit I'm a bit surprised that they've swerved into non-Showa territory just when this was starting to look like it was going to be a DLC pack comprised entirely of characters from the OG show. I'm still imagining Zetton will be the last character, but this has definitely made me less sure of that than I was before.

Yeah, that's a very cryptic teaser but the video description leaves no doubt. Ultraman Tiga! That is surprising. I guess this means the fourth character will be one of Tiga's recurring opponents, probably the kaiju Golza.
