"Godzilla History: 54-99" Review

Postby ebirahsmeg1 » Sun Apr 11, 2004 4:59 pm

I started another thread about this book a few weeks ago and after hearing feedback, I finally purchased it and I have to say, this book is *AMAZING*.  Definitely a must have for anyone's Godzilla collection book.

First of all, this book's main assets are it's beautiful pictures. Many are in color and some stills are quite rare and behind the scenes. There are even pictures of Godzilla's exploits in Zone Fighter along with Gigan and KG. It also has a very nifty foldout poster from G2000 of him holding a boat in his mouth. And as much as it pains us, there is even a section devoted to GINO, but the pics of the GINO cartoon are interesting. I really need to get better at Japanese because there are obviously some wonderful items written in this book and it's driving me crazy that I can't read them!

This book is divided into sections on the Heisei Series, GINO, then the SHowa series. There is even a section that covers the different aliens and bad guys(Red Bamboo, SeaTopia, etc), different Mecha(SY-3, Atragan, Super X, etc), and even a section on Monster Island that has some original drawings and artwork. Very cool stuff.

The only downside of this book is that aside from the G2k fold out poster, there are virtually no pics from G2000. Considering the Millenium suit from that film takes up most of the front and back cover, that was slightly disappointing. That is my next big goal is to find a newer picture book of G2k through GMMG that has pics of all the Millenium films (though I may just wait until after the G50th is out to see what picture books become available that will cover that film as well).

Overall, this book is definiately a must buy. 8-):th-up: If you don't have it already and you see it on sale somewhere, snatch it up ASAP.

Love my Pictorial Books of Godzilla as much as anyone, but the Godzilla History: 54-99 is really good as well. Plus it has one thing that the "Pictorial" books do not have in abundance: color!

I agree: gret book! Get it if you don't have it.

I was at the 2001 AFFE convention! I found it interesting that shots from the convention found thier way into the books.(No shot of my Baragon model though, darnit!) More on topic, one thing I like about these books, and Japanese books in general, is how almost the entire page is full of illustrations. Really makes you search the page to make sure you haven't missed anything. Off topic again, there was a video crew at AFFE '01 that were making(according to what I was told) a news clip to be shown on TBS NEWS in Japan. Any word on how this turned out? It would be so cool to find out that pictures of my models were seen in Japan! Boy do I miss AFFE... a really nice convention with just the right sized crowd...
