Tokusatsu (the book!)

Postby lhb412 » Sat Feb 15, 2025 9:09 pm

Insight Edition, a publisher specializing in large, coffee table books, is now releasing an illustrated guide to all things tokusatsu (from kaiju to TV heroes). This is an English version of a book originally published in France last year. Drops this October.

Looks cool! Definetely something that would've blown my mind if I got my hands on it as a 12 year old.

Oh wow, that looks really cool! Will it include episode listings (titles, air dates, writers & directors) for each tokusatsu series? I sure could have used a resource like that when I started watching tokusatsu TV shows a few years ago. I actually made an Excel spreadsheet just to keep track of all that.

^I don't expect such encyclopedic content. From what I've seen of the sample pages (in French) it's an overview of the subjects with pop out panels spotlighting of various details, for example: the section on the origins of Sentai has a little pop up paragraph on Sonny Chiba and the Japan Action Club. Lots of pictures, lots of illustrations.
