Does anybody plan on picking up the Godzilla novelization?

Haven't heard to many thoughts on it, nor a thread, so here ya go.
I think I will probably end up getting it. Especially if the movie leaves me hungering for more and my wallet can no longer support a repeat viewing of it.

Thing is... I kind of don't get the appeal of movie novelizations, at least for action movies. For me, what's the point of taking a largely action-driven story and putting it into a book? I think you'd be able to tell right away if a movie's plot is good on paper, because if the action is hollow, then I imagine a boring read. Granted, I think we can all agree Godzilla is definitely not a Michael Bay actioner, so it's got that going for it....

I am for sure!
A lot of times the novelization is based on an older version or more "full" version of the script. So you'll get alternate scenes and moments not seen in the movie but are in the script. I remember reading the novelization of John Carpenter's The Thing back in the day and there was a bit where they torched the weed they were growing up there because the thing had infected it, and there was a snowmobile chase scene as well.

I'll probably get it, just to have more stuff to experience especially in the lull between seeing it in theaters and the Blu-ray coming out.

I wouldn't mind picking it up along with the Man of Steel novelization.

I'm going to pick up the novelization as well. It's always interesting to see the differences between the earlier version of the script and the final cut of the movie. Sometimes there's some pretty big differences, for instance the novelization of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is structured as 5 chapters of a serial (which is what Kerry Conran intended for the movie, it was to have been treated like lost movie serial) however Paramount demanded that the movie be edited together as a single modern film instead of seperate chapters. (Paramount also forced Conran to have the film in color instead of B&W or sepia like he wanted)

Novelization? Hmmmm... probably not. Definitely picking up the Art of and graphic novel tie-ins, though.

I have read the Phantom Menace novelization back in the day. It was alright, I guess, but I do recall it expelling a lot more on Obi-Wan and Quai-Gon's uneasy relationship, things I didn't pick up on initially from my first viewing of the movie.
At this rate it's probably a sure thing I'll pick it up since it's $8. It'll probably be better than the Marc Cerasini books.

You know, I was going to pick this up this week, but then I read the Chapter 2 excerpt online and I realized I'm not sure I really want to read through a pedestrian retelling of the movie. Not yet, anyway. Maybe after it's done with its theater run I'll pick it up to tide me over until the DVD release, but honestly, I was kind of immediately reminded why I don't like junk lit. In the meantime, I have a void that needs filled with Godzilla-esque literature, and I've been starting to search for Godzilla fanfiction that doesn't suck balls.
Consequently, I've decided to take advantage of a lull between writing assignments and a general feeling of being out of practice, by whipping up a little Godzilla fan fiction to give our subforum a shot in the arm. Just as a little writing exercise; it'll be pretty short. Stay tuned to the Kaiju Fiction section, I guess.
In the meantime, I look forward to hearing what anybody else thinks of the novelization!
