I was in the same boat. And since Year Zero was just a prequel (or first 15 minute stuff) I wouldn't have expected spoilers. Glad I saw the review in my news feeds.

Wow. Thanks for posting that. I would have checked out the comic under the assumption that it was about as spoilery as Year Zero (which was not very spoilery at all)

Just picked this up, honestly, only read the first chapter but glanced at the rest of the book. It has a really neat story!
Also, from what I read, the book appears to be a prequel. Personally, I only see a few minor spoilers maybe? Didn't see anything that would spoil the film to me.

Just finished reading Godzilla: Awakening!



Obviously, there's a lot more they could have done with this story, but for a brief tie-in book meant to fill in some of the back story, it does its job well. Assuming we get a sequel, I'd like to see some more elements from Awakening make it into the next film.

I read it, thought it was alright. It was better than the Pacific Rim comic, but I feel like the background of Serizawa's father could have been useful in the film. At least, more than just the appearance of the watch.

I loved Shinomura and the fact that the comic is cannon is interesting. Maybe we'll see that the MUTOs/Kaiju are other film(not the ones from the movie) make an appearance.

Yeah. It's weird, but I guess you just pick and choose what works with the film which takes precedence.

Although Serizawa's father seeing Godzilla fight Shinomura totally explains why Ishiro Serizawa is so convinced Godzilla will defeat the MUTO.

Picked this up yesterday, overall not impressed, though I didn't expect to be (at least it was better than TALES FROM YEAR ZERO). Didn't like the drawing style (Godzilla in particular), and the Shinomura was just so-so. The Rodan skeleton tease was cool though.

It took me a while to get through this book, i kept putting it down figuring i must not be in the mood for it, but that happened more than once, so it took me way to long to read it... As far as the artwork, there were a number of great panels here and there, but sometimes i had no idea who certain characters were, although i guess most of the characters have zero impact on the story except to give someone for Serizawa to spout exposition at. I also wasn't a fan of how Shinomura looked most of the time... almost seemed more like a swarm of insects than a giant monster. The final fight was also a bit confusing. The overall story had some issues, but I also enjoyed some of the writing towards the end of the book. The explanation of the bombing being a man made storm/end of the world worked really well imho and the the eulogy seemed fitting.

I also enjoyed (probably more than the book itself) the page in the extras section that goes through the Cover Design with Art Adams.

So overall a pretty mixed bag... but i think i enjoyed Pacific Rim Year Zero more...

I thought there was more a sense of fun and exploration of ideas in Year Zero despite its flaws, whereas Awakening was sort of a joyless cat and mouse chase.. where the mouse was enormous but nobody believed it existed despite the evidence to the contrary. There were a few things i liked, a few good scenes (like the rescue attempt that gets interrupted, but overall it didnt work for me.

I don't particularly like either of the comics, but I thought this was still kind of interesting.
